evening lads (& lasses)
got a wee techy question on Marzocchi forks, just wondering if anyone can give me any pointers.
I'm on the hunt at the moment for a set of 66 RC2X forks, I've spied an online dealer who has the very thing I'm after.
Problem is that there is a great scratch at the top of one of the stanchions.
From the pic on the website the scratch(s) looks fairly deep....you could almost say it's a gouge.
My question is, I'm busting a gut to get a set of 66 RC2X forks....how practical, or even is it physically possible to replace stanchions? or is it worth replacing the entire upper assembly of the fork? would a UK Marzocchi dealer be able to carry out that sort of work.....and finally I'm guessing it would cost big bucks for that sort of repair....has anyone had that sort of work carried out on a set of forks before? if so could you give some idea of the costs involved?
I know scratches can sometimes be "glossed over" by using nail varnish and such like but in this instance I don't think that would be possible.
any advice would be gratefully received.
many thanks ๐
NB: maybe I'd be better off being patient until a decent set of 66 RC2X's come up for sale.
It requires a new crown assembly. These are not at all cheap. Your best bet would be to find a set of compatible forks that is otherwise broken, and swap them over.
You would need to replace the whole upper assembly. They may not even have spares for them anymore. Not worth the cost unless you got the forks for free.
Keep looking, put a wanted ad on SDH. They come up quite often, I used to have a set of 170mms. I also had a set of the 150mms, they were much harder to find 2nd hand.
beyond economical repair.....as I feared.
guess I'll keep waiting.
will check out SDH....cheers for the tip!
Try pinkbike aswell, and ebay and bikeradar!
Are these the coil ones? I loved the ones I had, the air ones I have now are nothing like as good. Adjustable travel tho, which I guess my bike needs (sadly)
yep the coil one's...I've a set with 150mm of travel on my H/T and they are fantastic, best fork I've used.
after the 170mm version for sticking on my full susser.
they appear to have a number of different ways you can tune them up, my 150mm model has a coil, also a cartridge in one of the legs and you can also pump air into them aswell...love the gargling sound that the oil makes when ever you turn the bike upside down.
They definitely work best without any air in them.
Also, if you need one of the compression adjusters for the bottom of the forks (these often go missing) Ive got one you can have.
ah yes, the missing compression adjuster....had that a few times ๐
I'd gladly take the adjuster off your hands....will drop you a mail in a few minutes with my contact details.
will drop you a couple of quid in return if you like? for postage etc.
Yeh, couple of quid'll do it. I'll send it STW's way.
Its missing the allen bolt though, if that matters? I reckon you'd be able to get one for pittance at your local diy shop.
Infact ignore that, ive found it
