I'm looking for new bars that may help with some elbow and wrist pain and the far greater sweep makes these look like good options.
Has any one used either or both? Any opinions?
Thanks,
Dave
used both , the mary bars are better upside down but still only give one hand position. the h bars just seem right . i changed from niner flat tops to the h bars and wouldnt go back . if you can afford the jones steel loop bars they give more lever position choice .
Tried Marys and never found the shape quite right for me, however I've got both Titecs and Ragley Carnegies (another alternative) on my singlespeeds, if I had to choose I'd say I prefer the titecs for multiple positions and shape but the carnegies are good too.
May I suggest Groovy Cycleworks Luv Handles.
I have found them excellent (have never tried Jones H bars to compare them against)
I switched to Mary bars in a bid to help reduce lower back pain on long rides (I've suffered with back on and off the bike for years due to an old injury)
The Mary bar really helped considerably but I am now in the situation where a more normal sweep bar feels absolutely ridiculous and poorly designed..!
I'm wanting to try some Carnegies yet as they may be slightly wider..
Marys were either too high or too low for me without resorting to odd stems but the sweep felt pretty much the same as the Jones. The Jones bars seem stiffer than the Mary but it can be awkward to mount shifters on the Jones because of the cross brace - there's a bit more space on the Mary bar. Or the Jones Loop bars give you loads of space.
Thanks all,
Dave
I've used a Mary Bar which i just couldn't get on with.
A Luv Handle which was better than the Mary but i couldn't get the stem length right no matter what i tried.
An original H Bar which was great but only any good for ssing due to lack of shifter room.
A Loop Bar both ti and ally which are fantastic and great for geared and ss use. The ti bar has a little more flex in it but is quite expensive. The ally bar is lighter and a lot cheaper.
I've got Titec H-bars on both MTB's and love them - no question, for me they are the most comfortable 'flat' bars I've ever ridden on - I tried Marys and Carnegies along the way, and whilst both were almostthere, neither were quite there enough.
One set is on a SS, so no shifter issues, the other has Dura-Ace bar-end shifters on 'thumbies', so err, also no shifter issues (but you would struggle to fit rapid-fire pods on them).
This'll maybe make little sense, but I can get a very similar overall riding position using these to the position I can get riding on Midges (other than in the wrists of course ) , and Midges are THE most comfortable bars I've ever ridden on. I can't imagine that I'd ever go back to flat bars again.
The loop bars look really useful, but I like the rise on the Titecs ...
