I just been advised that the eye to eye on this bike is 185mm apparently this size is now redundant.
Does anyone know what impact it would have if i fitted a 190mm onto the frame? or should i hold out to find a 185mm?
Oh bugger.
I have the same bike 01-ish. model and measured it for a new shock, just assumed the 185mm was a knackered 190mm shock.
Off to measure if 190mm would make it hit the frame!
Are there any 185mm shocks around?
speak to TF Tuned about this, they have a huge amount of knowledge about shock and bikes. They'll know whether a 190 i2i shock will work or how much it would cost to change a shock..
I have been told previously by Mojo the cost of re-working a fox shocks is ridiculous due to the work required, though has seen mention of manitou shock being re-worked quite a lot lately - might be worth asking if this may be the way to go?
Thanks both, iv spoken with TFT, Fox are releasing a new batch of 185mm rp3 in a month, price at £340 😛
The 190mm wont fit.
Won't fit? or shouldn't be fitted?
Just had a wee measure up. In long travel mode it "misses by miles", medium travel it might not hit the frame, but short travel is a no go.
190mm for about 100 quid, what could possibly go wrong! 😉
or £340 brand new shock on a 8 year old Marin (me thinks the shock would be worth more than the bike)
I would fit the 190mm shock, remove all air pressure & move the swingarm up & down through its travel - if it doesn't foul anything then I'd pump it up & ride (pressures & sag might be slightly different to stop it bottoming)
Guys from ATB said it would bend into the seatpost mess up the geometry.
i should be able to get a fox vanilla coil shock without the compresion chamber on, how would this be on this frame/setup?
