Slightly mythed to the "Lifetime Warranty" on the pivot bearings on my marin mv 5.9.Yet again after approx 20 rides the nearest pivot to the bb cream crackered. Its all well recieving the bearings foc but each time i need to pay labour on the fitting, on the understanding the Marins have lifetime warranty on bearings i would have thought they would be better quality than the norm.Only 2 knackered marin only send out a full set therefore more labour charge for all of them to be replaced.Does anyone know where i can buy this bearing kp5ax could do with a couple spare ready for the next time they give up the ghost.
£21 ea on Simplybearings....
they are very expensive bearings... better to get them for free 🙂 last time my lbs just ent the linkage to atb and they fitted them for free.
Thanks for your replys approx how long did yours last?
My Wolfridge ones gave up after about a year. I sent the linkage plates to my nearest dealer (100 miles away) who dealt with them for me.
I did consider replacing them myself until I realised how expensive they are.
My Mount Vision is 3 1/2 years old now and needed a new set of bearings about 18 months in. The new set have lasted 2 years - I tend to dry wash it now (rub the dried dirt off and the wipe with a damp sponge). I usually ride my hardtail in the winter though, but the current set have done 4 weeks in the Alps.
My LBS didn't charge for changing them last time and I didn't even buy the bike from them. Thank you Cycleworks Guildford.
I've increased the life of the bearings on my 5 by making a mud-flap from motorbike innertube zip-tied to the downtube to shield them from everything thrown from the front.Popping the seals, and packing with EP type grease also helps, as does avoiding any sort of pressure washing(though experience working as a mechanic tells me nobody EVER uses a jetwash on their bikes, especially not those dry and rusty bearings that you know were packed with grease only a couple of weeks ago) 🙂
