Potentially spending a night or two in Manchester soon.

Where is a good place to head for a ride relatively near(maybe within about 1.5hrs)?

I've ridden at Macc Forest. Liked it well enough but I seem to recall closures mentioned on here not long back?

Anywhere else? I was going to head to Dalby but didn't realise they'd built it quite so far from Droylesden in Manc.

What's good for a razz?

👊

Rivington / Winter Hill to the north of town has some good trails and decent elevation.

Might be able to show you round.

Craig beat me to it. Rammy. You can have a mosey out to Cragg quarry or doss around all the numerous descents off Holcombe Hill. Bit boggy at the moment mind

When are you here? I'm sure we could show you around

The most gnarsome of the lot round there is Havok bike park in todmorden. Biggest man made drops in Britain (top of the freeride line)?

What's Philip's Park in Prestwich like? Good for XC mucking around as I remember from the old Bury Mountaindales days but I'm not sure today's gnarly DH rig riders would find it very challenging.

Well, don't try and ride up Doctor's Gate, like a visitor (who definitely should have known better) attempted yesterday. He was planning to go up Doctor's Gate, along the Pennine Way, then back along the Trans Pennine Trail. All a bit different from "down south" . . .

Oh, and if you're planning to ride the premier National Trail (for walking), best not to do it wearing your governing body kit.

Small. About 4km of trail. It needs to be linked in with a bigger ride.

OP, if you are around on a Monday there's always the MNPR.

Cheers all for the guiding offers and suggestions.

If I go up (girlfriend has a funeral and she's from there) then it'll be on a weekday within next few days, and during the daytime I might go for a pootle, over the evening I reckon.

If I don't travel up this time I will at some point soon so really appreciate the offers and suggestions.

I've heard of Daisy Nook and that, and been to Hartshead Pike so if there's a nice enough loop out from Droylesden and back to there, then that might be nice. Have to get a map/gpx.

Seen Farmer John's and Havoc on Harry Mains YT channel. Look good. Might be worth a look too.

👍

Thought that was something to do with number plate recognition? What's MNPR? I'm from the Midlands...

Ramsbottom looks nice binners. I'll have a look around there on a map too and give it a scout.

If i found myself in Droylsden with an hour to drive somewhere i would 100% head over the hill and do a Ladybower loop. mix some of the classics with some of the steep tech on Win Hill. Doesn't get much better than round there for me...

Failing that there is some quality riding above Dovestone Res on the edge of Saddleworth Moor? not far at all.

or just go back to Macc. wouldnt worry about closures, plenty to go at there.

Rammy is my local too and i love it but its hardly a destination... likewise Rivi.

Philips Park is good if you want liberating of your possessions or an unpleasant encounter with crossers.

MNPR - Monday Night Pub Ride

There's Phillips Park (Clayton Vale) and Philips Park (Whitefield). The former has a worse reputation than the latter.
