i've got BOB but it's in Munich. the axle to my mates BOB has gone walkabouts. the GF currently has lots of bits to transport to Uni each day and i thought it'd be easier if she towed it along behind her rather than on her back.

the axle looks like this:

it doesn't need to be QR as it'll be left on for a good while. so my question is can you (me) knock one up using bits and bots from a hardware store?

any tips....?

How odd that this has come up today as until yesterday i wasn't aware that these existed. I was rummaging through my local halfords clearance bin yesterday and they had one of these in there. Can't remember how much but it was either £1 or £5 i think. I may be popping back there later to buy a hub i was umming and arring about so i could check if it was still there and post it at cost?
Unless of course you prefer the challenge of making one yourself?

really, halfords had one?!!?

very kind of you MrT. if you do drop in there on the off chance and it's still there then yes, please do pick it up and we can arrange something.

however i'd still rather bodge something now otherwise i'll be riding to the Uni at 8:30 tomorrow morning.

many thanks!

J

Yes, i was amazed at what stuff they had in there actually. I got a Knog rear light for £1, a cateye light for £5, MucOff long trigger lead for 50p and a spare connector set for my bike computer for 50p. Took me a while to work out what the Bob axle was?

I also bought a 'Bobike Bikeaway' which i thought was a bike storage bag - couldn't be bothered to open it up out of the bag in the store so took a 'lucky dip' chance and forked out another princely sum of 50p - turns out it's a toddler bike wear thingy that attaches to the child seat, and i don't have children!

I'll pick it up later for you assuming it's still there and PM you with the details. Good luck with the bodge in the meantime......

EDIT - look like the axles come in different sizes - do you want to let me know which one you need before i buy it or shall i just get it anyway?

Hi Alpin,

It was still there (i reckon it would have still been there in 5 years time as well....) and was a bargaintastic £1.00 which is a result as the full price written on it was £27.14. 🙂

You don't have a email address in your profile so look mine up and drop me a line and i'll get it sorted in the post for you.

It was the standard QR as well which according to the BOB website is 126mm-140mm so all's well. There is nothing written on it but it measures about 135mm so i'm assuming that's correct.

I bought a spare on ebay recently. They can be bought as a spare.
