what bike parts could i use as the hands?

needs to be light weight and bike related; i'm only using one of those cheapo clock bodies you get in most clocks.

Spokes I reckon. Or gear outer?

Excellent idea though - might do the same 🙂

Cut up an old chainring to make two hands?

could you not weld a few outer edge links off a chain together? or you could stick them onto the arms off those cheap clock hands.

Kenny Wilson makes some very nice ones. A mate has one given pride of place in his kitchen.

Check his site here.

Also known for writing a very good guide book, site here.

David.

spokes are obvious, but what abour some shaved down brake/gear levers, or even rear mech plates?

I'm thinking of making some windchimes out of the parts I had to replace when my Trek 8000 fell off my carrier on the M1. Should I make a clock instead? I've got a 185mm Avid rotor, a couple of skewers, a pair of XC bars, a saddle, a brake lever blade, a tyre and a tube. Come to think of it, can anyone come up with something better using those parts?

You might have a problem using anything heavy such as chain for the hands -could run fast for 1/2 hour and then slow up to the hour.

If you weighted it about the fulcrum so the hand was balanced about where it spins, couldnt you use just about anything you wanted without messing up the clock bit? (obviously within sensible limits)

Old Cantis for hands?
Gary_m - if done well it'd look great. Doing it well is the tough bit.
