I could well be after an adjustable fork, and these have sprang to mind.

Am I right in believing they have a pretty short A2C as I'm currently running a '10 Marzocchi 44 Micro Ti and these are only 507mm A2C

The reading behind this is to possibly sell off my Cove Handjob and just utilise my Helius CC with it's adjustable rear travel for everything.

Any thoughts on the Thors?

They're not a bad length for a 140mm fork.

For the travel, they're very light and very stiff. Early model (like mine) is a bit of a pig to setup, very sensitive to air pressure. Also, when the travel is reduced, you end up with the same length sag. So 30% sag at 140mm, equates to 40% or so at 100mm.

But relativly easy to do a basic service, and I think not impossible to do a more complex one, which is why I replaced my old 'zocchis with them.

I find the travel adjust on Thors only useful for dropping the front end on long and/or steep climbs rather than providing the ability to generally run a bike with different amounts of fork travel.

First off it's not really practical to consistently set the travel to something other than full or to minimum, as you adjust the travel by pushing the Flight Control lever and pushing down on the forks, then releasing the lever when they're at the desired height.

Secondly if you set up the fork to feel right at 140mm of travel then it's very soft when running at 100mm of travel. It's not just that it's still sagging about 40mm, it also goes through the other 60mm of its travel at the same rate it would get through 60mm of travel when fully extended.

If you're OK with the travel adjust being there to lower the front end on climbs then they're pretty good forks. And I've got a set of '08 Thors for sale at the moment. 🙂 (No Flight Control remote, though - they're plasticky and quite vulnerable if you go over the bars!)

Had a set of 09s and they were excellent. Pain to setup initially but once done they were spot on. Wouldn't get a new set though - aren't they £800 or something??? I'd want a whole bike for that!

Might know where there are some new ones a bit cheaper than that, Steve, DM/PM me for details 🙂

Luckily I bought some when On-One were selling them last year at £400.

Light and very stiff - I like them.
