looking at new front lights, as my old one aint bright enough, has anyone out there got the above light, and if so is it as good as they say. its the 1600 lumen one.
cheers Paul
Yes - took it out for a first night ride monday night last week.
So i use the 900 lumen torches you get from deal extreme (and still do for spot on the helmet)
Had to run it on second from top power as it chewed through the battery really quick. Still much brighter than the 900 lumen torch on second from top. Very 'floody' so I think it makes a better bar mount than helmet possibly.
My friend has just got one, it's a great light, lots of lovely floody light with a good reach (distance wise).
I have a Smudge XML to compare it to (& a Trout Mini), and am struggling to decide which is better, the 872 has a lot more floody light (similar to the mini but unsuprisingly they are the same 4 LED's), but the XML is brighter and better more punchy reach, though a tighter beam...
EDIT: As above I'd recommend it for bar light use, and again it seemingly goes through the battery (watching the LED change color on the rear of the unit), though were only out for 2-2.5hrs on a night ride, so it's not been an issue for us. That and the lower beam settings are very useable, and would obviously extend the battery life.
Again my friend is using a P7 MS (though bike) torch on his head and isn't finding it over powered by the 872, a good combination - as he was right on my back wheel last friday, which is a first for a while.
In terms of lumens ??? But lots brighter than my Cateye triple. I've been riding with mine helmet mounted on its lowest setting. Plenty of widespread useable light. £95 quid delivered....no brainer IMVHO. It makes paying extra for anything else seem like insanity.
D.
What is the best torch to run on the head with the 872? Also where is the chepest place to buy the 872?
thanks
What Davesport said. To spend extra on anything else would be mental. Ace light for the money. You'll probably find it cheapest on E bay.
I run an 872 on my helmet, my only complaint is that when it's on full it drowns out the Hope 4 on my bars such that I might as well not bother with is 🙂

Would it be sufficient to run the 872 on a helmet mount only?
Yes, definitely. I just use my other lights to give me more range on full power as I'm often out for 3 - 4 hours and like contingency.
Absolutely bonkers light but if you are used to Hope/lumicycle quality it is a bit xmas cracker. Uses the blunt axe approach to lighting it throws out a bleedy, uncontrolled wall of light but is insanely bright even on half power. Look at it from 10m away and you'll have green and purple spots before your eyes for the next hour.
Hard to beat in terms of light/£
hope it is good, going out the door with my just bought Magicshine (as above) right now... Will report in 2 hours, if I don't crash!
Well, if you want my opinion my new light is great. I have it bar mounted at the minute and the flood is great. Good on the fields but even better in the woods. It also lasted easily for 1.5 hours on full. Me likey!
Used mine for it's first proper outing at D2D this weekend, one word - awesome !Used on the bars,it was still going strong after 7 hrs on the lowest setting, which gives out plenty of light with a helmet light...
I got mine a few days ago, and while i cant comment on the quality of Hope or similar lights im pretty impressed with it. Seems well enough made to me. Time will tell when i get it out on the trail.
I have one for sale with the helmet mount its only done 2 rides £80 posted
they're £89 on eBay with a free helmet mount and free postage. I definitely recommend them to anyone serious enough to want to spend that! 😀
How waterproof are they?
Any warranty with them?
The-milkybar-kid, I'll give you £70 if you can get them to me quickly?
it pissed down tonight on first ride and no problems...
