Not those ones specifically, but I've got Magicshine normal lights, they are great.

Heads up - OnOne have lots of them types of lights. Just check the prices before you buy.

So, 4-6 hours a week, keeping you riding through the winter? I'd say that's justification for buying decent lights.

Have a look at these, I have one of the higher end ones, very good on the bike and night orienteering (running around forests in the dark)

Bh 1000 or BH 1600 are both probably better VFM than that "Monteer 1400"...

Bnd I'm not sure the MJ-906 would actually be much better on your noggin for a couple of hours night riding than the MJ-900 (at less than half it's price)...

Don't be too impressed by lumen figures, anything claiming more than 1000 will probably be pretty Bright, then it all comes down to how many owls you need to melt...

My post isn't going to be that useful, so apologies in advance.

I swear by Mtbbateries and their lights. In terms of all-round package for the money I would heartily recommend.

The point I really wanted to make, though, is that is it now - the first 'what lights' thread of the season. Summer is over. Sad face.

Just looked at the planet X website. Tempted by the Alty Mini as that looks like much better side on vision than my current MS commuter. Hmm, what else to fill a basket up with....🤔

I bought the 900b light from Planet X for £34 last winter, I really like the 'b' (Bluetooth) line of the Magicshine lights. You can customise the levels and how many you want using their app. It also doesn't cycle through 'off' like some cheap lights do when switching modes. I have 100% for fast/technical descending, 70% for fast but not steep/technical and 30% for climbing. I got rid of the flashing modes, so it is super simple to use. I will also get the Bluetooth remote to be able to change the settings without having to reach up to my helmet.

I am looking at getting the 902b light for the bars as the battery life is better than the 906b, so it should be good for 3 hour rides.

I have lights from Mtbbatteries, highly recommended. Excellent quality lights, for the price that does not break the bank. Drop the line to Mark at mtb batteries for a around 10% discount.

Came here to recommend Mtbbatteries - great lights, true battery life and awesome customer service! My first charger failed after a few weeks and it wasn't an issue to sort - another one arrived next day!

Those MTBbatteries lights look good. The value of no brand, Chinese mass production and the safety of UK back up.

I was totally sold on the Lumen 2200 until I got to the bottom and saw that it's discontinued.

My experience of Magicshine is that the lights are ok but like with lots of lights, the cables and connectors are the weak points.  If you can get one with a built in battery than you are likely to do well.  Battery life was nothing like described by about 50% but it still worked well

Went through lots of different lights until I got  a half price Exposure light.  It still works years later

I have a mj900 I think it is, works well I use it on my winter road rides for about 1-2 hours. Only downside is you have to scroll through flashing and off to go from high to low power.

Just pre-ordered the Bobby Dazzler 3000 to replace an Evolva X8 I dropped and the battery no longer holds charge for more than a few days.

I LOVE LAMP(s)

I've had an MJ900 for nearly 3 years now, very lightweight but packs a bright punch, I rarely feel the need for anything but "low" or "flash."

The only slight negative for road use is the beam is not very focused, so I tend to point the beam centre approx 5 metres in front of me on the tarmac, to reduce dazzle for oncoming traffic and the rare vehicle on my side I might keep up with for a while.

Used mrtb batteries for 2 years with no issues, in mud, rain and very rough and techy trails. Amazing at the price point.

I upgraded to a full exposure set up when they were silly cheap at millets ebay store, maaxxd and a joystick on the head. Amazing lights, no wires is sublime (and so easy to switch between bikes as have 2 mounts) and the big light lasts for several rides. Pricy but so worth it.

Just received (in about a week) one of these (full kit inc battery) to replace / run with a still working 7yo original P7 Magicshine.

I wanted to spec a natural 4000k colour temperature as I hate white (blue) tinted lights.

Looks incredible for the price. Cree XM-L2 U2 is the latest emitter everyone is now using.

Will see how I get on.

I have a magicshine. Wish I didn't buy it. The bar mounting system is awful and has fallen apart on road and flown off on tracks. The helmet mount is even worse and won't work at all on my helmet. Battery life is woeful even though reviews say it's great, and the batteries don't always stay put. It's not fun screaming down a track with the light flicking on and off with every bump.

On the plus side 😂
It's really bright.
... But on flash mode it's actually too bright and becomes annoying.

Oh, I'd forgotten that.  I had to unscrew their mount and attach it to something a little more to robust to make it work

Did the Bobby Dazzler light arrive? The 3000 lumen one looks superficcially similar to this "BX3" light ... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-X3-1500LM-CREE-T6-LED-Mountain-Bike-Light-USB-Rechargeable-Front-Rear-2019/173945219709 but I' wondering if it's got different leds or batteries or anything, does it seem like 3000 lumens. I've got a very old Maxx-D 1200 lumen light i need to replace.

Since this post I've managed to go on 2 night rides! Both only around an hour 😂 so probably right in thinking I was a little excited about the nights drawing in and then reality gets in the way.

I've been using some old Chinese lights, one came from aldi and to be honest they been doing OK. I've a liking to lights without batteries as they are a bit of a faff. Ad mentioned above the bikehut 1600 light seems reasonable for the money, extra 10% off with British cycling.

Also one of these Chinese torches for the helmet.

The Magicshine 902B and 906B have dropped price at Planet X to £55 and £89 respectively. I have just ordered the 902B to go with my 900b.

Has anyone with a Bobby Dazzler found any issues with them staying put on the bars? They look fine for the money, but the attachment to the bars looks to be the weakpoint - I've seen a few similar lights on the trails, and they always seem to work themselves loose.

Just popped in to say my free Bobby Dazzler light arrived today (free when you buy a fugly helmet with rear, red LED lights For £20) and I'm very impressed! All metal, feels solid, bright enough for night riding... And yes, the mount looks awful so it'll be supplemented by a thick Velcro strap.

Bit late to this but had magic shines for years. Not the most prolific night rider but they're still going strong (one lamp did need a small soldering job but that was satisfying to do).

I have just ordered the Magicshine Monteer 6500, paid £189 from bike lights U.K. with a 5% discount code.  Will be matching it up with my exposure diablo for the lid.
