Any reason why shimano specify these can be used w 1x10, 2x10 and 2x11, but not 1x11? Something to do with the max size cassette?
Mainly vague curiosity but they're nearly half the price of SLX 11spd so if they can work 1x11 I might get one as a spare...

They probably do work but Shimano make another Deore 1x11 specific mech that is the modern design (1x only style). They're probably just avoiding any cross compatibility to get you to buy the more expensive one
