[#3075835]

Drop bars suitable for some mild off-roading.

Has anyone ridden both of these and might like to share some feedback. If I went for them, I'd be thinking off-road, road touring/commuting and maybe even some CX racing?

Its a shame that no one has experience of both as I am looking to change from Midges to either of these because I find Midges a tiny bit short in the drops. You should consider Midges - if your hands aren't particularly large you should find them fine.

I've not ridden midges but just looking at them convinced me the drop was useless.

druidhdhdhdhdh: you know I ride woodchoppers, what is good about them is the near-vertical angle your stis sit at - to me the luxys etc will force your elbows in when using the hoods, which is rubbish off-road. Also a tight bend making the tops wide.

I wouldn't consider anything else.

You can have a spin on my bike but you'll have to bring steps to get up on it ๐Ÿ˜›

Cheers Al. I knew the midges had angled STIs, but I though the Luxys were more like the Woodchippers.

Looks like there's only one option then ๐Ÿ™‚ I'm guessing the 42cm version would best suit my petite frame....

cynic-al - do you ride the hoods off-road? I wouldn't even contemplate it on my Midges.

I've used all three plus original WTB Dirt Drops.
Currently I've got the Woodchippers on my Big Dummy.
The Luxys are on my Singular Gryphon.
The WTBs are on my Soulcraft Option 3.
The Midge's are not being used at the moment, but may go on my Bontrager CX (currently using Bell Laps).
Of the 4 I like the Luxy followed close by the Woodchippers.
I really like the Midge but the they are too short on the extension flare even for my small hands.
The brake reach on the Luxy is spot on, I like a shorter drop and I like the 31.8 diameter.

Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. Of those you've tried, which would you say kept the STIs most vertical?

What's wrong with Salsa Bell-Laps?

I don't use STIs on any of my bikes (except my Bill Holland road bike).
I like the Bell Laps but not on an MTB. They are more of a road bar IMHO.

The new Salsa Cowbell in a 46 works well on my crosser, feels much more natural than the Midge both on the hoods and in the drops. Extra width makes up a bit for the relative lack of flare... also very comfy
