I know this can be done by cutting the spring and adding the travel spacers normally used in floats, LINK but do you think I could fit one of these spacers without cutting the spring? Im only wantting to lower 10mm so Im hoping I can compress the assembly enough to thread the cap back into the crown, and hence lowering them to 150mm perfect for my AM 5 build. Anyone tried this or got any idea if it could work? (my fork will be here end of next week so will try then and let you know how I get on if anyone else was interested in the mod)
Go for it, it worked on my marzocchis,
You will gain extra preload though, and lose some performance over small bumps perhaps.
I was thinking that, could always go down a spring though, wont that even out the extra spring preload?
Fit the spacer then either cut and grind the spring or try and compress the fork enough to fit the standard spring but it won't be as good as it will have a lot of preload - you could fit a slightly softer spring and preload that.
Hoping I can do it without cutting the spring, but will resort to power tools if I have to ๐
I have lowered a pair to 140 as they are better than 32's i chopped the spring and used a bench grinder to take the edge off. Also done the same on a pair of RS domains 180 >160's.
Do you think chopping is required for 150mm, how much spring do you think I will need to take off? or is it keep trying and measuring?
