Ah, man. It's just a distillation of everything that's wrong with the world. Instagramming, selfie-taking narcissists everywhere, concerned about their appearance to others and chasing rainbows rather than just getting on and enjoying their limited time on the planet 🙁

Ha, I pointed out to them on Twitter that, despite what they seem to think on their front page, there is no such thing as 'enduro riding', that it's just general trail riding and that 'enduro' is a race format.

They're response was:

I disagreed. They responded that the page is aimed at enduro riders interested in both riding and racing as the items suit both. 🙄

OK, you're not wrong but at the same time, it's become a fairly useful tag and it's no dafter than "all mountain" or "trail" or "overmountain" or any of the other damn fool terms we've had for what's basically the same thing.

I don't see why people get so upset over this. I have only very occasionally raced Enduro and I don't think I've ever used the term in real life but it does describe a certain type of riding to 'enthusiasts'. There's plenty of people on here and elsewhere who aren't that fussed about riding technical descents as quickly as possible, some people even claim they enjoy the climbs more than the descents. *shudder*

That's hardly very enduro is it? 🙂

Also, I'm really shocked at the hatred that a marketing email for biking clothes has suggested you to look sharp. Specially to people who race enduro might want to purchase new clothes to get noticed during the race season. Marketing is everywhere because people are trying to flog you things as they are trying to get your money out of you. Learn to ignore it.

Why pick on enduro?

People have been buying over-priced kit to ride bikes for yonks. Nothing new here.

I suggest that you have been unable to ride a bike all your life. Certainly as a baby you couldn't ride a bike and it's possible that you'll end up in a old persons home, not riding.

Therefore, it's an unspecified period of time, which is one of the definitions of the word season.

Enduro is a great example of our times.
A perfectly created blend of marketing and reality, which is why it's such a success.

It makes lots of people very happy. Bums on seats, all good.
And that's despite the fact it's all a bit Nathan Barley meets centrifugal bumble puppy.

Well they do, but in the last 2 weekends we've had round 1 of both British enduro series and the WES which all run until the back end of the year and its only in the last month that the WGS started which runs until July began. so it's not unreasonable to refer to it as the new 'season'.

It had more than a whiff of pathetic about it that email.
