Can anyone recommend a decent long weekend's riding in the lakes? A bunch of us have a yearly reunion to catch up on some riding and beers together since we've got married, had kids etc etc. Nothing too hardcore but we love a bit of fun. Cheers.

3 choices imo

Ambleside
Conniston
Keswick

All depends on what type of accom you are looking for?

All the bike shops have printed route map cards for £2ish so routes out of these towns are pretty sorted.

Not too bad a site for routes;
http://www.mountain-bike-cumbria.co.uk/

Although the Boggies sfb site is ace;
http://www.bogtrotters.org/list_routes.php

Nothing too hardcore could = Grizdale, Whinlatter, Kentmere, Blencartha/Latrigg, Loughrigg/Claife Hieghts. All mapped out on above shop maps. Could call Biketreks/Keswick mtb/Wheelbase and have them posted so be able to pre-plan/mark maps.

I'd be tempted to base myself in Ambleside, then you are well located for Grizedale/Claife/Loughrigg, plus Jenkin Crag/Garburn/Kentmere etc

He did say nothing too hardcore though - doesn't Nan Bield involve a 45 minute carry?

If you mean going down Dollywagon on Helvellyn then that's pretty hardcore too.

Thanks guys - sounds like it's a base in Ambleside. Not sure I fancy a 45 minute carry!
