Hey all
Anyone got any recommendations for lightweight long sleeve / leg riding gear. Envisaging a super lightweight base layer
I've realised I get bad reactions to horsefly bites and id rather not suffer that again.
Is there anything that won't cook me?
Thanks
Tim
Maybe look at running gear? I’ve got a very lightweight Nike long sleeve top that may work.
I’m sure they’d do summer leggings too, you could always throw baggies over the top if needed.
Edit, dirt cheap from Decathlon.

Troy lee tops are light weight. Some have loads of perforations.
Breezy😀
I wear my long sleeve morvelo tops year round. Even on super hot days. Nice loose fit and not too thick.
Cheers
I've found some options for tops, struggling to find leggings
Last time I was in America I had a mooch about in BassProShops. The hunting and fishing guys over there have the whole sun protection thing sorted, similar for paddlers and surfers.

How about some UV proof sun legs overlapping with your baggies?

Yeah, the sun legs look like a good idea.

Won't horse flies just bite through it?
Genuine question as I've been bitten a few times now and I end up with really painful lumps that last for literally months. I also once fell off while panicking trying to get one of the little shits off my shin.
I like to keep covered, partly for health reasons. Tops is easy. I've got a mix of general sports tops and a couple of branded bike ones. All are fine. Bike ones are slightly better but not by much. For legs I use 3/4 shorts and long socks. Either football socks or running compression socks. Not too hot and give a little protection from flora and pedal bites.
Compression socks seemed the sensible solution. I wear long baggies anyway.
They may bite through but I'd be happier with 'some' protection from the bastards - without cooking myself.
I'd go and browse the sports shops. Alas....

Bookmarked.
I'm flats so for the legs a combination of longer shorts, knee pads and shin guards pretty much cover everything. For less tech rides I ditch the knee pads however don't imagine finding something to cover those would be too hard.
3/4 shorts and knee long socks (see football socks, or Norfolk Bekele, or lots of other running/compression socks), for early morning (if lots of dew) Long sealskinsor dexshells,
Irritatingly I can’t find then now but from eBay I got a few very light, long sleeved with collar, 1/2 zip tops for about a tenner, Something like. Sports long sleeve zip , I thought they were fab
dri fit long sleeve zip This gets the more mile ones which are fine (imho) but not the import ones I originally found
Have you tried insect repellent? Something like Smidge might help on your legs.
Never had much luck with it in the past and apparently doesn't really work on horse flies.
To be fair I dont feel safe in my house when they are about 🙂
