I'm trying to help an elderly friend with a bike he hopes to ride through France retracing a route he rode when he was a teenager. He's now 75 with a knee replacement. We found him a bike but we think its a little short in the top tube. I wondered if a layback post may help.
It's a long shot, but does anyone have one I could try on a test and return basis? It's a 27.2mm post.
Cheers, MC
I have a Thompsen 27.2 x 410 in silver languishing in the shed. I am based in Alton, Hampshire. If you are nearby and can use it, my email is in my profile. Going in to a meeting all afternoon so won't be on here again today.
Jef
Jef, that's brilliant, I will email you.
Yesterday was the first rain and wind, ice and snow free day for the last couple of months to test out Jef's layback seat post on my friends bike. We got it fitted and went off on a six mile spin to see if it improved his riding position.
Andy was like a kid on his first bike. It was a revelation. Even with one knee replacement, another pending, arthritis in his hips, dodgy wrists he was smiling from ear to ear discussing routes through France with the enthusiasm he had as when he first rode down through the country as a schoolboy.
Cycling is an awesome ageless inspiration.
Really pleased he got sorted so easily and agree with the bike sentiments.
But more importantly, does Jef now get to pretend he's your long lost brother for a day and build woodpiles / tend to the estate / tinker with Land Rovers etc etc?
What an ace story. (The France ride). You must post an update as to how your man gets on.
It would make an ace documentry... ๐

That is why I think older people are great.

Seriously, his enthusiasm was so infectious I don't want him to leave without me.
Ononeorange, shed building advice already proffered, I just need to get the Jef to send me his address so I can send him some single malt vouchers.
