Morning all

Looking to spend a couple of days in Shropshire with a mate. Never ridden round there before but looks like we'll be basing ourselves around Church Stretton as there's a train station there.

I've seen this place http://www.mtb-shropshire.co.uk/trails/ which looks like it has camping and route advice. Anyone know it? Any good? Can anyone share any good local knowledge of stuff we should ride? Is there enough to go at for 2 decent day's riding?

Ta!

We stayed in the camping pods there last year and it was really good - highly recommended. The lads in Blazing Bikes - the shop there - will give you advice on local routes and conditions etc. The long mynd is a short ride away and is a brilliant ride out. The pub on site is very good too - best steak i've ever had!

Went there for the first time a while back - parked at the place you've linked to.
Shop staff were really helpful, camping looked fine. Pub looked nice enough and served good tea.
What more can you ask for?

Oh, the riding was good too!

Si

Cheers, seems reasonably priced at £35 a night for 2 of us as well.

Had my first visit there on Saturday, it's quite scenic...

Not exactly a tech fest and I wished I'd taken my 29er, but stunning views and some nice bits of trail.

One thing: I used the usually excellent Vertebrae guidebook (it's in the Wales one) but the route has a serious mistake and a hugely pointless descent. Best avoided.

Off there soon myself - besides the bridleways are there any other 'paths' that are worth exploring?

The Mynd is a beautiful place with nice riding, however nothing techy that I've ridden but I've only been 3-4 times. If you want some tech, Eastridge (if you can get) is just up the road and is fantastic if a little short.

There's a camp site in Little Stretton which a mate says is really good and I've stayed a night at Brow Farm, Ratlinghope which was ok but only one shower if that bothers you.

There's the Stiperstones area (sp) as well. I've not ridden them personally.

Those pics look rather nice! So we should go and expect a nice scenic day out, with sandwiches, cake and what have you, rather than a seat of our pants tech fest. Sounds good to me

Don't miss the awesome Minton Batch descent, off to the left just before the gate at the gliding club (when approached from north).

And there's a long, fun track down the other end of the ridge down to All Stretton. Fast and grassy then steep and narrow.

It looked like there were probably loads of other cheekier options too.

Camp site, YHA at Ratlinghope, The Green at Wentnor. you stand a good chance of getting in at those.
Small batch is nice, ace spot, but gets booked up for the weekends.

Routes - see Kate and Al at Plush Hills in church stretton. If you follow the basic way marked trail you'll have a good day.
Fast flowing trails, the locals (me)love 29ers. But all wheel sizes are welcome.

The first photo above is cardingmill valley. at the weekends don't over commit down there, there will be LOTS walkers.

If you want tech- twisty - have a session in Eastridge, don't undter estimate how much work you will do on a short loop.

Eastridge in the soaking wet a few weeks ago was very techy, in fact I would say borderline dangerous in the conditions we rode it in.

In the dry and dusty I imagine it would be bloody excellent.

I was there yesterday, followed this route and it was awesome - http://www.theedgecycleworks.com/mtbroutes/long-mynd-hard/

No its not techy but it's just a fun ride with great views and the speed you can get down some of the descents can get a bit brown trousers when it gets tighter/looser on the singletracks. Will post the pics i took when i get home later 🙂

(that climb is an absolute bastard, I'd rather do the Burway road climb up again I think!)

Hopton woods is nearby and excellent too. The blokes in the shop told us it's better than eastridge.

Hopton woods is excellent. Do the taster loop first then the Red. Quite steep up and down in places and well worth the effort of getting there.
