Long shot..

Has anyone road-biked in any of these French Departments? We are passing through and have time for a reasonably long ride. We've been in the mountains all week so wouldn't turn our noses up at a canal path or something flat. Pretty would be good.

Also if anyone can recommend a hotel that would also be helpful.

Thank you.

I've canoe shuttled the Allier on my bike, and some touring days around Besse.

Lovely short, sharp hills, seriously hot some days.

It should be a fabulous place to tour - I'm planning a return.

The Loire cycle route looks ace, runs along a lot of the river. Lovely area, I have kayaked 300km of the river, it's beautiful. We wild camped the whole way so can't see bike camping being a problem near the river. It was pretty hot in early september. We did a bit of cruising about at the end of the trip round the allier, lovely quiet roads, very rural. A railway runs along the loire so a one way trip is possible
