7.5s down on the target at the moment, going into the toughest part. This could be tight...

is his target purely the record, or something better than it?

at the moment I think the british record (Dan Bigham, 54.723) is going to be tough ask, I can't see he'll get the world record. He;'s almost 30 seconds down now 🙁

54.596 average speed with 4 mins to go. Can't see this happening...

Great effort, but not quite there on the day. Gives me inspiration for tomorrow's commute.

He did talk about starting steady and finishing strong, so maybe it's good?

Seeing Michael Hutchinson there I think I’ll have a read of ‘The Hour’ again. Ages since I read it but a good read if I remember correctly.

Massive, brave effort. Well done AD.

Third furthest ever and 1.6k beyond what he rode last time.

Well this is clearly a breach of the rules. If it's LIVE NOW then it's clearly more than an hour.

Can confirm - an outstanding book. 🙂

Should have had a sit down for 5 mins, pint of beer, (recovery shake of champions) and had another crank. Maybe someone else had the track booked.

To be honest as soon as I saw Hutchinson was his coach for this I had doubts and Alex has been off the pace this season as well. It appears they were relying on him being better adapting to the altitude and a low CDA rather than outright power

If Dan Bigham was the coach I'd have had more optimism

At least he had a go, plenty don't

I don't think I would like to compare Hutch and Biggles, I don't know enough about them.

Don't forget that Obree went back the second day after failing on day 1. He was worried about muscles seizing up over night so he drank a couple of pints of water before bed knowing that he would have to wake up to pee. Each time he had to go to the toilet he would do some stretching, then drink more water, go to sleep and repeat, and repeat and repeat.

Amazing effort by Alex, proper hardcore.

NO SPOILERS - I want to watch this in 20 years time...

Always impressed with anyone lining up to do something like this, requires a very high level of commitment for a sustained period of time...mental and physical prep must be seriously hard. The ride itself must be seriously tough.

One is an amateur coach and rider, one is a pro coach and rider

Bighams own hour attempt has been described as conservative in execution

I've ridden the London velodrome and the lack of air when you're moving is a bit stifling - i can't imagine doing that at max power for an hour.

I also watched the Wiggins record in the Velodrome and thought 'f8ck doing that without a drink for an hour"

Amazing effort from Alex - not every attempt at these records has to result in a win..

The mental pressure in training and executing these events must be off the charts. I get nervous before I do an FTP test in my spare room and it's literally of no consequence at all.
