ok so I might have been a bit over enthusiastic today but cycled out to my nearest trail centre and did a loop. I’m really impressed with the byways on the road and off road but nearly lost the front a couple of times. Probably should wise up and act my age but got me thinking is there a 650b tyre out there with the speed and comfort of the byway but with a bit more side grip
Any thoughts?
I'm not a fan of specific gravel tyres. Ive separate wheels for road use and like you, want tyres that are good off road, I'm looking at dome specialized crossroads as an alternative to website at the mo.
The Byways haven't let me down yet, but then I'm probably just riding within their capabilities. I can't immediately think of something with a smooth/easy rolling centre and lumpier shoulders but there will be some narrower MTB tyres in the 1.8/1.9" widths that might do the trick if you can fir them in. As above, Specialized Crossroads might fit the bill.

I was initially trying to purchase the elwoods before the byways but they were out of stock in 650b
Swiss cycling federation tests showed the Conti Race King had the least rolling resistance of XC tyres. Probably not a lot in it.

Your probably right Scotroutes, I think I just got carried away( thinking I was back in my 20’s)
I think if you're tackling a trail centre in late March in the UK, on a gravel bike, with semi-slick tyres, then you've got to expect a bit of sideways action and lower corner speeds. I looked around a lot and imo the Byway looked ideal for a 50:50 mix of road and trail... which is why I got the Horizons instead... and have just been sliding around my local woods on them this morning Lol! I very nearly went for the Gravel King SK though, they look to gave a little more grip off-road.
It's all a compromise, but the Byways seem a pretty good compromise to me. If you want better grip/traction at the trail centre then may be something a little more knobbly would be better for that.
Also, what pressure do you run in your Byways?
I was running them at 32psi tubeless, I like the Soma Cazadero but none in the U.K. and pricey from the states
