its been hooning it down all day in deepest darkest devon and my softshell was wet through pretty rapidly. a design limitation i know but given the current summer climate seems to be wet followed by more wet I think its about time I bought a shell jacket to back it up when the heavens open.

Now, i'm before I spank £250 on a lovely Arcteryx Alpha SL to match my softshell are there any alternatives worth considering?

Now, I know Arcteryx make nice kit but there's no need to spend £250 on a bike wtr prf! (imo) Obviously if you are using it for other stuff then easier to justify.

Even then loads of nice Event jkts by Montane, Rab etc that do the job really well for much less £££

climbing, scrambling, walking, running, general everyday use. its rare I wear a waterproof when I'm actually on the bike.

i've already got a few bits of arcteryx kit and they are worth every penny, well designed, well cut, well made and backed up a lifetime warranty..

What do you want a new anorak for? It's the middle of summer FFS.

Just got a Montane here but I don't know if would keep you dry if it were hooning in darkest Devon. Last time I experienced that it went through my Karrimor showerproof but it's still the garment I wear most often because its breathable and light.

I found the featherlite smock and velo a bit close fitting

😆
All the reviews I've read, and my personal experience, suggests their fit is generous!
