I'm looking at doing Mountain Mayhem this year.

I've got some Cateye Triple Shots, the old silver ones, but I have lost the charging unit.

New lights are lots of money, which to be frank, I wouldnt recoup as I dont have much chance to get out in the winter when its dark so paying £250 on lights to be used maybe once or twice a year is a bit OTT.

Does any where hire out lights?

Ta

Lumicycle do....
or buy some cheap ones from deal extreme for the same sort of cash!

If you are not used to riding at night, mayhem might be a bit of a challenge 😀

Ta I'll check out Lumicycle.

Riding at night is easy!

Back in the day I used Smart lights that were the equivalent of having 2 cheap torches on your bike, and a 20kg lead acid car battery 🙂

You could try contacting Smudget at mtbbatteries he may be able to help you out for a charger, search on here for deal extream lights, spokeshirt, spoke bloke and you could find yourself a new light for less than £100

here is another place doing the magic shine lights http://www.roughrideguide.co.uk/Magic-Shine-Front-Bike-Light.html

for £112 you could get a light charger and 2 batteries so you can have a spare fully charged for the event.

Hmm £50 to hire, or £100 for 900 lumen's.

I might look at modifying my Tripleshots. I know Trout has done a pretty spectacular mod on a Tripleshot in the past.

Rusty Mac - Yep thats the one.

I did a self build light a few years back using Luxeon III's and a Heinz baby food tin, but it packed up (I think it over heated).

The mod Trout does there requires the use of a dremel, which I dont have, but I am wondering now if their on any equivalent LED's that will just drop stright in. Batteries and chargers arnt cheap though either !

I've emailed Trout, for his advice...

You can get the same light for just over £80 delivered direct from Korea

www.lightandgo.com

I ordered a set on 31st Jan and according to Parcelforce it's out for delivery today - 8 days from S Korea - not bad considering it was on the free postage option and not express.

LightandGo Fireball just arrived - 3xXPG, helmet mount, extension leads, o-rings, charger etc.

No customs charges and 9 days door to door from Far East (free postage).

Did a quick comparison in the garage against my Magicshine 836 (same as the Spokeshirt/LightandGo Owlet) - the new Fireball lights a much bigger area with the same intensity but i'm thinking the Owlet might have more throw.

With one on the bars and the other on the helmet it should be a cracking combo. The fireball is lighter so will probably go with that on the helmet.
