My bike has those funny clippy in things on which I don't like off road so they are going on the commuter.

Can anybody recommend some good flat pedals for XC riding. <£40 and cheaper if possible. My bank balance has just taken a beating.

I use track pedals. Light, cheap, and mud doesn't stop you getting a grip on them. Best worn with shoes with big lugs.

what skyliner said Wellgo MG1, light and 30ish quid. Half the price of DMR V12 (and pretty sure theyre the same thing) and a chunk cheaper even than Superstars.

or google it, highonbikes have em in white only for about £34

Superstar Nano tech flats are very nice and pretty light. Slightly over budget though.

I think superstar do a light weight small bodied pedal iirc.

I get on well with dmr's.

The platforms on Superstar/nukeproof pedals is bigger than dx, v8s or mg1.

The mag/ti versions are very light but far over budget.

I'd say dmr v12 mags if you can stretch to it. I had a pair of Wellgo Mg1s that fell apart miles from civilisation leaving only the axel to pedal with! Plus they are not the biggest to keep your feet on.

Somewhere recently I saw a quick review of some new Gusset flats in clear coloured plastic, apparently pretty tough, loose bearings, the more expensive version has replacable pins. They're £17...
Worth a punt, I'm going to try some on my ss, just for the fun of it. You could just get some DMR V8's. I needed some flats quick one Sunday, for a SS conversion commute bike, and they were all the local Halfords had. I'm still using them six years later, the black powder coat's mostly peeled off, but I just keep squirting grease into them and they just keep on spinning. I've replaced two pins in that time...
They were £25, IIRC.

+1 for Shimano DX's. A bit over budget but you won't be fiddling with bearings every 5 mins. Fit and forget
