So my trusty L&M Arc hid head unit is dead. I emailed Light and Motion and they mentioned that they offer a discount to try and get people with existing light and motion set ups to move over to their led lights. They suggested getting in contact with Madison but as yet I haven't had a reply (email) from them. Will prob give them a ring tomorrow but has anyone upgraded in this way? What sort of discount did they offer?

Cheers,

Will do, you can buy just the head units but I'm hoping they're offering a discount on top as to be honest without one I will prob go with a different brand as the seca heads are pretty pricy! 😉

geetee1972 looked into this a while ago - sadly madison are not taking part but L&M will do it directly but obviously you have to send to the US. They are offering to upgrade a HID to the latest 1400 lumin jobby for $225.

Madison are certainly not doing any trade-in deals that i'm aware of at least.

BTW...$225 for an upgrade to the Seca 1400 is a bargin considering it's £500 at rrp!

Are Madison not just the uk distributor though? I guess if they buy the stock it's up to them what deals they do, could do with a bit of good fortune so I will keep my fingers crossed. 🙂

When my ARC head unit died madison offered me 10% off the rrp seca head unit. Thing was I could buy a complete seca light set battery charger and all for only £10 more with the discounts you can get online. Needless to say I passed on Madisons kind offer 😉

remember you could end up with import duty and vat on the 225 unless they show it as 0 cost warranty replacement 🙁

The 1400 Seca is in a different league to the HID, but you have to ask, how much longer is your HID battery going to last. I'm really pleased with my 1400, the beam pattern is a lot better than a lot of lights out there, I wouldn't pay RRP for it though.

I have just got a broken one in to repair if possible
or put leds in but it turns out to be plastic housing so not possible .

You could send the defunct light head to me and for a similar sum get a Mini trout head with the cable from the L&M head on it so it will work from your battery .

or chuck it all away and buy a Bastid

Troutie - would you also be able to do this for a Liberator? Any idea of cost and turnaround (and for the mini for that matter).

PM me if prefered on ajryan@btinternet.com

Afraid the Liberator needs a 14.8 volt battery and the L&M Hid I have here is 11.1 volts .

will mail you when I get home

Well seems you were right Madison don't know don't really care kind of response. Thankfully L&M are at least far more responsive so will see what the score is direct.

I have the Seca Race Ultra 900 and reckon it is fantastic - very usable beam pattern...the 1400 is also very good...can't recommend them enough (although they are stupidly expensive).

At the time I had a choice of a few high end lights and I got the Seca - I didn't pay anywhere near full price so I don't think my judgement is too biased...I didn't loose anything by getting the Seca.

Called Madison this morning and was offered £260 for Seca 700 IF I could find the orginal receipt for my Arc (6 years old). I don't feel that this is a particularly good deal!

Contacted L&M about this the other week, prompted by this thread. Head unit only replacement was $225 or $150 for SECA1400 or 700. They were sending someone to speak to Madison to see if they could offer something similar here I think. Does seem like a reasonable deal to me...

$150 equivalent (£100) would be excellent BUT that was not the price that Madison quoted me this morning. I may write a note to L&M and see whether they are able to get Madison to offer a similar deal.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, the dollar price was dealing direct with the US. The UK distributor is a separate business so it's down to them if they want to offer the same terms as the manufacturer I guess. This would be the difference between me sticking with L&M and getting something else I think. After sales service was excellentwhen I needed it from Madison.

Following this with interest - would happily trade in the head if that kind of deal was on the table.

Ah - just thought - next question - would the Seca work with my NiMH L&M battery??

Having had some banter with L&M in the US I fired them $200 this morning for a SECA700 head unit ($150+$50 shipping). Now time will tell how long it takes (but at $50 it had better be quick) and also how much interest the UK customs take (and their associated charges). Still should be way short of the £260 Madison were going to charge and also hopefully less than the £200 approx I could get the head unit on the open market.

OK final costs are in.

L&M charges $200 UK Customs charges £36.61

Total cost for a SECA 700 head from the US to the UK was therefore £163.91.

Time from sending from the US was a little tardy (held in UK customs for a week before release to Parcelfarce) at 12 days from sending.

I was not required to return my failed ARC head unit (though this was still the ideal requirement), unlike Madison that wanted both the unit and the original receipt from 6 years ago!
