Well I am using Saint triple on one bike with a bash guard and no inner- bombproof and on the other I have used set of Shimano Exiage 300LX cranks with a middleburn ring (it's a 1989 Marin so I felt period cranks are appropriate).

On both SS bikes I use 8/9 speed rings and have never had a chain escape.

So pick up a second hand set of Shimano, Raceface... or whatever takes your fancy and remove the ouer and inner ring and job done cheaply.

If it is a single peice, that Hope ring is totally daft. The amount of metal they have to cut away to leave that is huge. And for a chainrings that will wear out quickly. Unless of course the guard is detachable in some way.
Plain old XT here, with one of Tazzy's wobble rings. I can't recomend the wobble rings enough. Simply excellent. Not cheap though. And now he's talking about a Ti version... ๐Ÿ™‚

Yep, seen it, and held it, very light and very one piece...agree though a lot of effort for something that's a disposable item really, it's Hope though so it'll sell like hot cakes!

I guess there's no place for my budget Alivio square taper option here then?

The other's barely more exciting XT ht2 and a Salsa ring, which is round.
