Nice to see others started riding in jeans too! I used to wear jeans and a rugby shirt, until I realise the mud soaked my jeans and held me back 😉
****ing love that last picture jimmy, just looks like me and my mates early 90s
Love looking at these old photo's, so many great memories, just wish I had more photos
This was me at the NEMBA in Bosley, 1992ish. Decent down from the masts, lap 2 sports cat.

Best thread ever.
ha!
Oh dear early bath
Ackie,I've got a photo of me which matches your 4th photo. Some race in the Quantocks in maybe late 1991? Lots of riding across fields with a bit through the woods and a couple of banks to ride down...
I crashed on the last lap and ended up in hospital....
redx I hope you recovered. I have a feeling I might won it 😯 or at least made the podium!!!
Are you a local lad?
Here is a post race pic. That's not you sitting down with the St John Ambulance guy is it?
Tinkering on my wife"s Saracen hardrock 94/95
Ritchey Z max tyres - yesteryear's Nobby Nic
Boxelder is that first pic of yours, one from last years Kielder 100 😉
I like M-Cs wedding procession. 🙂
Nice happy pic.
I had a pair of them that I bought from Leisure Lakes, they were awesome. I remember the day I found out that part of the sole was removable and cleats could be used (about 2004), good shoes. I was thinking about them the other day. I want a pair again.CaptainFlashheart
My ankle, circa 1999. Loved those Scott Tahoe shoes. Had three pairs on the go for a while. Awesome.

Oh yes indeed but if i remember they were replaced with a pair
of bright red Macau tyres (think that was the name) terrible tyres
but she liked the colour
No photos but a film (taken off ye olde VHS) from late 90s.
Some great crashes by radoggair of this parish.
Ackie,
Not that's not me. Knocked myself out, got taken to hospital with a suspected fractured skull and ended up with amnesia for a couple of weeks.. Apparently I messed up the drop(?) but can't remember.
Grew up Somerton/Street way and was biking with a bunch of guys who called themselves the 'Mendip Rock Gorillas' who used to meet in Hunter's Lodge Inn just up the hill from Wells...

That was a slightly different shoe, but I forget the name. Looked very similar though. The Tahoe was flats only.
Also on the shoe front, what about original Answer Flatfoots? Awesome shoe!
so annoying flickr is blocked here at work so can't see most of the pictures...
Earliest off roadin pic I could find 😉

Best thread ever +2 🙂
I think I'm somewhere in that Cannock crowd. My first ever race at 15. Camped the night before, got smashed on stolen brandy and built a massive fire in the camping field. Good times!

Yer we were at a campsite, no for the race above but another CCC, bikes in tents and us sleeping outside - then we built a fire to do jumps over and then someone started a UHT milk fight - then we went on a no lights night ride around the town - got back to the campsite and the gates were shut so had to take shelter in a public bogs.. knackered, hungover stinking of milk and public bogs... then do a race - not good prep!
good times though!
Wow, you jumped a massive tree 😉
Those jumps are much higher than anything I would contemplate attempting!

FAKE! I can see the wires 🙂

Am I right in saying the second photo is the race Simon @ Simon cycles put on in Cowbridge? If so I did that too!
Love the picture of you heading to the church. Really sweet. 😀

Check out the handlebars as well. It's not actually me but someone else off here. Maybe they'll drop by and 'fess up if they can drag themselves away from chopping stuff down 🙂
First bike...

..back in '86 but I think I got the bike about a year before. One of the shifters is still in use daily on my commuter. Always makes me smile.

Marin No 8 yes some "MTB race" along the high st, those were the days though a few fields and obstacles made it a right laugh! think it was one of the first races nicole Cooke ever did(being from Cowbridge and all taht).
Aren't those Malvern pics from 1994? 1993 it stopped raining but was super muddy 1994 wsa a corker of a summer, I have LOADS of pics from 1994 Malverns. 1995 year of stabbing racing got cancelled and didnt' go back until 24 hour race in 2005. will have to dig some more out now I've started this thread 😉
Awesome thread. Will dig some out when I'm at parents next. I like all the old Raleighs.
Loving the old monster bar ends we all had! When I got a new bike after my Kona I inherited Mr MC's old GT i-drive and I INSISTED he put bar ends on! After a year in the Alps I realised maybe they looked a bit gash with riser bars!!
best thread i've ever seen on here, love the old piccies! Tony, that one of you on the rostrum looks like someone cut your legs off at the knees LOL!
Great pictures.
MC where was the wedding? Great shot BTW, the light is lovely.
