[#3681721]

So let's see some of your old skool pics! Got me thinking about I've been tidying stuff up the loft, found a lot of old MTB photos.
Me on my first ever MTB £99 Emmelle Cheetah, T-shirt my brother made a school it had "power" screen printed in purple on the front! Taken at Margam Park 1993 about my 2nd ever MTB race (which I do believe I won!)

[IMG] [/IMG]

This was billed as an MTB race..home village of Nicole Cooke, I also believe this may be one of the first races she did which was her foreay into cycling.

[IMG] [/IMG]

Boxing Day ride 1993 what are those trousers about? Guessing I rolled them up so as not to die on the descents!!

[IMG] [/IMG]

So come on let's see yours....

I was a couple of years out in the date above. This was 1989, after a ride up Snowdon on my black Cannondale, with the full 80s quiffy hair. I'm on the left.

The only known picture of anything cycling related back in the day. There are no known bicycle riding shots (but there should be some long-distance motorcycle endurance-trail pictures somewhere - although they'll all be the same: a handful of muddy, tired-out looking bearded blokes stood around mud-coloured trials bikes, on garage forecourts at all hours of the day/night). Ah, they were the days ...

😉

Anyway, this is my '92 Fire Mountain, within a couple of weeks of being bought - brand new (£450.00!). One of the only two bicycles that I ever bought as complete bike, and it still gets a regular seeing to.

Milford sound South Island New Zealand 1991....my '89 Diamondback Ascent on the back of my Ford Falcon 500 (4.1 litre straight 6 column shift....pure class with vinyl roof and beer crate holding up the front bench seat! But a great ski/surf/MTB mission wagon). The bikes still going strong as a commuter with a friend in Denmark.

Trying to find some scans, circa 1989 - 1992 but have just dug this out of the cupboard. Quite impressed that it's lasted almost 22 years!

[img] [/img]

Think that would have been on a Giant Explorer and a load of us from the shop all went up in a van. Pretty sure that only one of us was old enough to hire the thing and fell asleep driving back...

There is something about one handed wheelies and endo's of this era. I remember wanting to be a mix of Greg Herbold and Hans (No way) Rey.

Ackie,

I've got a photo of me which matches your 4th photo. Some race in the Quantocks in maybe late 1991? Lots of riding across fields with a bit through the woods and a couple of banks to ride down...

I crashed on the last lap and ended up in hospital....

Some great photos... Happy days....

Alex

This is from about 1988, my brother had just got a new Raleigh Mustang and was on holiday in a caravan on the Isle of Wight, I wasn't too sure about mountain bikes so decided to buy a second hand one and go by bike, train and ferry to join him for a few days to try some off road cycling ... those were the days! (when I was skinny and fit, the bike was rubbish!)
