Still can't suss a way to get from the top of Leith to the bottom of Summer lightning without going on any bridleways or absolutely minimal use of them. Any ideas??

Did we do this not long ago?

Anyway, I dont think it's possible to do the entire route on singletrack but I've sent you an email with suggested route and map.

Hope it helps

Thanks , we did indeed do this a while back but I still couldn't link the tower with the trail from the cricket pitch or the bottom of deliverance to the top of SL.

The best bet is not to go down deliverance - head to the left of it at the top and follow a nearly straight line trail down over a footpath and the boundary fence into the plantation above Wolverns Lane where the top of regurgitator comes out. Don't go down regurgitator, but turn left and go along waggledance (I think it's called). Then you have about 50m on fireroad to start of SL.

Tower to cricket pitch link is marked on the map I sent you. AFAIK it cant all be done on singletrack.

We don't do the drop at DL we go straight on and follow that trail that has the nice berms and stuff through the dark wood. Was trying to avoid that last bit of BW up to summer lightning as there is a trail that comes out just before the entrance to SL. I suppose I'll have to reverse up to to find the way through. I think you can get to the bottom of summer lightning from the cricket pitch without going on more than 10 meters of BW, that would be a nice run.

I thought that NT weren't keen on people riding over the ancient boundary? between the foot of Deliverance and Waggledance or the one separating the track up to Summer Lighning and the doubletrack down from the Cricket Pitch?

Joolsburger - I've seen that too. I'm not sure if it's all singletrack or whether it's just a short section that branches off the fireroad that goes behind the pavillion at the cricket pitch. It might be a branch off of the trail that leads to deliverance but I've never looked, sorry ๐Ÿ™

I'd much appreciate the map as well. Bit of a Leith Hill newbie and although I've found Deliverance and then got over to SL somehow I'm pretty sure I joined it halfway down, so any help would be welcome!

another request for a map if they're going please - all my riding on leith so far has involved way too much bridleway stuff.

I think it was the bottom of the deliverance one, but there was a stage where it was being crossed in several places I think. There's one place now and it seems tolerated โ“

The main link I'm trying to do is the bottom of Waggle Dance or Donnie darko or whatever its called to the start of summer lightning.

At the mo they spit you out on Woolvens lane and you ride up to the start of Summer lightning but there must be a way through without losing the height.

As you come up the hill to the start of SL there is a track to your left and I wonder where that goes would be good if it linked in some way to the others.

timmys and purist - YGM

Jools - I think it would involve not doing the track past deliverance and onto waggledance. There is another track that branches off at the same place as the one past deliverance. It's even further to the left and goes through a bomb hole. Not sure if it's a variation going to deliverance or the route through you're looking for so I'll have to leave you to explore!

Well I'm going there tonight so I'll let you know.

I reckon if it could be linked thats a good mile and a half of mostly downhill singletrack.

Are any of you including the old skool trail (cordoned off a few years ago) that used to start on the right hand trail above the Landslip, but now "starts" by tucking in on from the left hand trail to rejoin it about a third of the way along? Brings you out near the cricket pitch.

I do - riding very nicely at the moment. Is the first part of that trail completely out of use?

Icj I'd also love a copy of the map. I know bits and pieces around Leith hill but I'm trying to expand my knowledge of the good bits!

The first part was levelled by all the tree felling about 3-4 years ago. Prior to that, IIRC, we used to have to clamber over/around piles of branches. I can't really remember what that bit was like now - beside, the remaining two thirds is nice and flowy as it is.

There also used to be a weird roll-in to the right of the cricket pitch (kind of dug into the hill as you look out over the view) that hooked round to the left and spat you out 50m along near the play area en route to Deliverance/Roller Coaster. I think that got officially turned over too.

You can also link the "new" end of SL to the singletrack that runs alongside Wolvens (via the start of the downhill to Simon's Cottage and thence to the bottom of the Rookery.

So now that's the cricketpitch bombholes all the way to the road. Which I have had the temerity to name "Go All The Way". Ahem.

But you still have to break in the middle onto woolvers lane to get to the start of SL?

Could I have a copy of this map please? Looking at heading up to Leith Hill soon and would be handy as I have heard some of the trails are hard to find.

Thanks!

Phil

Map sent to you all..

futon river crossing I couldn't see an email in your profile, happy to send if you've got one.

This isn't a map of everything on Leith by any means - it's just the question joolsburger was asking about. Outside of what's marked you'll have to explore ๐Ÿ˜‰

Cheers
