[Closed] Lazy helmet cam footage

By all means use helmet cams to compliment the movie you're making with different shots, but when a supposedly professional outfit is publishing 5 minutes of (poor quality) DH course runs I can't help question the laziness. I get that amateur boys (and girls) with new toys want to put their full run of Cwm Carn on YouTube, but I expect better from the pro teams.

Check out the recent Cairns practice run by Rat Boy to see what I mean...or to disagree with me ๐Ÿ˜‰

I think you might be missing the point of said bit of footage...

Yeah it was a bit bad, but I'm guessing they checked the camera on them last minute and they seemed to pack it in shortly after. Most of the Peaty stuff is nicely done.

How so? Whatever the point, it was not well filmed. I normally love all these course preview vids - Caudio thingummy's one was great - but I just switched this off 2 minutes before the end. Shame, cos I usually enjoy the This Is Peaty stuff and Ratboy is one of my fave riders to watch.

Because that was all it was ever supposed to be - a helmet cam run of the track during practice, showing conditions and trying to get it out to the viewers asap.

Yes, not the best quality but was as on par with most helmet cam footage (which can make Champery look like a walk in the park!).

I'd imagine during a race weekend they'll be concentrating on the racing and we'll probably get a proper video in the next 'This is Peaty'.

disagree.

it was put on line 'almost live', not edited for months beforehand and is designed to give a flavour of the course conditions etc and as a run up to the event itself.

Exactly. The par is too low in quality

designed to give a flavour of the course conditions

This video does a much better job of doing that:

I don't expect unilateral agreement with me - where would the fun be in that? - but I've just got a bit fed up of riders both pro and amateur thinking several minutes of poorly composed helmet cam footage is worthy of promoting to the masses. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I know, I've been guilty of it myself ๐Ÿ˜†

OK helmet cam is a bit hit and miss, the video you linked too is filmed from standing, much easier to film holding the camera than wearing it.

The Ratboy cam is the exception to the SC Syndicate stuff really. If the conditions were better they would have 3-4 runs to choose from. Considering their main concern was learning a track then it's not bad.

TBF shooting broadcast quality footage isn't really a rider's main priority during practise, stick the camera on, press record and see what comes out.

Essentially not all that different from any amateur efforts, it's just a passive Camera there to try and capture footage of you doing something interesting, it's not actually what you'd call proper "Filming" you just get what you get...

If you want High production values, super crisp images and perfect editing from your free to view web footage you are pretty likely to be disappointed...

press record and see what comes out.

Quite. If what comes out is not that good, do the general public still need to see it? Hardware and webspace is so cheap and accessible that quality control of all manner of footage is lowest of the low priorities. It's such a shame.

On a tangent, did anyone notice Loic Bruni racing with a helmet cam at the last round? I thought they were enforcing the rule of no cameras during racing.

Not at all. There's plenty of good quality stuff out there that is free to view. The Red Bull coverage is great.
