Why does my 08 Kona Dawg have 2 positions for the bottom of the rear shock - approx 2cm apart?

If it's the same as my '07 Coiler and 04 Stinky, [url= http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=521569&highlight=progressive ]the forward position should give a linear shock feel and the back more progressive[/url] . . . can't say I really noticed any difference though.
