Had a bit of knee pain recently on my right knee. I know the docs is probably the best stop, but can anyone offer any different advice too.
I ride with flats and there's no swelling just a achey feeling post ride.
Thing is i am pretty much duck footed so am never sure wether irde ride with my knee inwards and the foot striaght on the pedal or my toes pointing out a little.
Is there anything i can check do myself at all too??
thanks
I get knee pain when I ride with flats. It's to do with there being no float on flat pedals.
Try spds or similar and see if the pain goes away.
If you want to change your duck footedness do it over a year to 18 months or you will cause a whole load of other problems.
ok cool. How do i change my duckfootness - any ideas? Just reposition my foot little by little over the period.
That's pretty much the only way to do it. But we are talking millimeters at a time.
thanks. Thing is if i ride duckfooted then my knees are straight.
If i don't so my foot is straight then my knees are pointing inwards.
sbz - isn'tfloat how much your foot can move, on a flat its infinite
i have got a lot of knee pain at the moment.
had 2 previous procedures to remove bits of cartilage, both times the surgeon told me i would be fine.
at present i can feel a foreign body (piece od cartilage?) floatinf about the front of my knee.
when i catch or bang it, the pain makes me hit the ceiling.
one piece of advice i was given prior to getting my 1st procedure was, do not ever let then go into your knee's without seeing a chiropractor 1st.
i wish i had listened.
thing is spds are going to keep the movement within a range. flats don't.
However i do not mean to offend, but i'll never ride with spds.
ok thanks ton.
thanks all.
cruzheckler - when your pedaling your foot is pretty damn near fixed on any descent flat pedal - yes you can reposition it but it shouldnt really move if you value your shins
spds even with weigh on and pedaling allows your foot to move 3/5 degrees rotationally
i often repositon my feet for some types of riding. fr riding stuff
For pure xc stuff though, hardly ever do.
Any decent flat pedal has pins on it that stop your foot from moving around.
I get awfull pain behind both of my knee caps which has forced me to swap from clip ins to flats so I can move my feet around during riding. I went to see a "specialist" and his advice was to give up biking and to never kneel down. Very helpful.
I'm no expert but have suffered with knee pain from time to time and would offer the following ;
#take the wait off your legs at every opportunity - especially try to #avoid standing on hard floors for too long
#sit with your knee supported and higher than your hip -easiest done on settee with cushion under knee
#take some anti inflammatories
#consider a knee support bandage in bed
#definately see a physio before going under the knife
#don't go up and down stairs if you can help it
#rest properly
#do some stretching specific to the affected area
#get some different shoes and/or inner soles - i changed to sepecialised BG inner soles and it made a marked difference
