Afternoon all.
I have some (old) Rockshox Tora 318 air forks that developed a click everytime they compressed. In my infinate wisdom, I pulled them apart at the weekend to try to fix them.
Stupidly, instead of leaving the motion control cartridge sealed as I should have, I decided to open it and re-fill with oil as i've has a small leak out of the bottom of the leg.
Very sill idea. Queue lots of oil everywhere and some forks that went fro 130mm of well damped travel to 50mm of no damping and a hydraulic lock bottom out (very harsh).
While they are cheap forks (and i'm after some new ones), i'm hoping I can sort these to go on the girl friends bike and tide me over until i've got some new ones.
Is this what I need seals wise to sort the motion control (plus fork oil):

Or do I need (and I hope not because it's more money):

Did you just take the motion control cartridge out and pour oil in the fork leg? You might just have overfilled it.
Probaly the second one 😆
Rockplough, I refilled the cartridge before putting the lowers back on and oil was p*ssing out of the bottom of the upper leg and when I put the lowers back on, filled the lowers. On top of that, oil is coming out of the top of the leg where the lock out knob is.
StumpyJon, I think you migh be right, just that the kit in the first pic has a label on one of the bags with motion control written on it so was hoping for £15 rather than £30.
Why did you put it back together in that condition anyway?
Sounds to me like you ought to leave it alone and take it to a shop where they know what they're talking about.
HTH 😈
You know how the bolt at the bottom of the fork leg connects to a long piston which goes up into the stanchion? I'm assuming that piston was in place when you poured oil in the top? That piston is what seals the stanchion and stops oil falling into you lowers.
It's confusing me how you're saying you refilled the cartridge. You're supposed to pour the required oil volume into the stanchion, then insert the cartridge.
IF the piston was in place AND you're doing everything else right then you need the 'Tora Service Kit'. I would ring TFTuned to be sure.
