Ok I know its a bit early for Kielder posts but does anyone have any recommendations for camping close-ish to the start.

I camped about 100 yards from the start last year. Is that close enough?

kielder campsite is where i've stayed for past 2 years. 200 metres from start.

For those never done kielder before, BEWARE OF THE MIDGIES...aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!! ( you have been warned)

There is loads of camping/overflow camping with portaloos, within a couple of hundred yards of the start.

If you get there around dusk be prepared for ridiculous midges. I had the tent up early but I got out to check the bike and had to abandon the idea, there were midges in my eyes, midges up my nose, midges in my ears, ridiculous.

Top tip, the race briefing is like every other race briefing you've heard before so just stay in your tent away from the midges.
100% deet kept most of them at bay last year although i still got bitten but not as bad as plenty others.

Pre book only.

book in advance. They never ran out of space but ended up using overflow fields which were further away.

Avon skin so soft works for the midges and is less toxic that DEET.

The worst part wasn't the briefing, it was waiting on the startline in the morning. At least in the evening I had trousers and long sleeves on. Shorts and jersey left far too much of me exposed.
