[#7863923]

Mum is away for the next 2 weeks, so Daffy Jnr is going to be doing his first proper MTBing with me. He's 4.5 years old, tallish for his age and properly skinny.

Recommendations for pads?

Cheers,

M

I got my lad a wee set of cheap kids hard shell BMX pads, knee and elbow, for about 20 quid.

Something like the below. They do the job.

More or less impossible to buy anything decent, so I went for the assumption that something (in this case at least) is better than nothing. I think we ended up with Argos ones, they seem to work, my eldest (6) has had a good few spills on them at the BMX track and got up unscathed!

I run adult elbow pads on my kids knees. They fit a treat. Nukeproof ones I think.

My kids have these from decathlon, they seem pretty decent for kids pads, just ignore the wrist guards.

But I also have a set of forearm/elbow pads that I never use and have put them on my lad as knee/shin guards before as well.

got my 8 and 10 years olds these from Halfords. They have used them at BPW a couple of times and they are fine.

I got
these for my daughter. She only wears them when the rules state that she has to. Otherwise she only has a lid and gloves, a couple of bruises and the odd scab now and then. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fox launch pro youth are good. No shin protection though - how important that is depends on how aggressive their pedals are ๐Ÿ˜‰

EVS Option Mini have been good for us too - hard knee and shin protection and strap on and off easily.

Lizard skins soft elbow pads are great for protection but not restricting them too much too.

IXS Hack Knee small come up really small had to send the Small ones back and get Medium for my tall (92nd percentile) skinny 6 year old. (ignore the size chart!)

Chain Reaction's free returns for the win!
