[#2367415]

Thinking of changing venue for our yearly lads long weekend riding from Coniston to Keswick this year. Only problem is I dont know any sites nearby that will accept same sex groups.

Anyone know any ?

Thanks.

Scotgate in Braithwaite is a good site, and right at the bottom of Whinlatter pass/Forest. Just of the A66 too so a doddle to get to.

Don't bother with Castlerigg mate as they won't take a group of lads after trouble a few years ago.

Dave - depending on how many you are, you could go for the camping barn 'round the back of Catbells. It sleeps 12 with coal for the burner available on the farm:

Good spot for riding Causey / Hindscarth / Robinson, etc, and the Swinside's only a five minute ride away.

Cheers lads! That barn looked spot on till I noticed they are booked up the same weekend we want 🙁

I did think of Scotgate, but I would have thought that they wouldnt want groups, however their website does not mention no groups.

I was thinking of Lanefoot at Thornithwaite as we stayed there with the family last year and there was a group of lads, but their website now says no groups 🙁

Wonder if they make exception for mountain bikers, what with Whinlatter being so close.

pretty sure we stopped at Lanefoot. We bought wood of him and had a fire in an old wheel.

Lanefoot's pants!
Went 18months ago with the GF, admittedly it was soaking wet due to endless rain for about a month, but the bloke was a bit useless & bathroom facilities for women pants too.
Having the bathroom as the men's showers was kinda weird as well.

Being able to have a fire was the only decent thing, have been to nicer sites (though nowhere else near Keswick).
It was handy for Whinlatter though - you've gotta do Go-Ape, and the cafe up there is ace! 🙂

Dave, stayed at Lanefoot last august so am aware of its shortcomings, but this is a group of lads... so not fussed about knackered bogs, the showers were recently done up though and were ace!

Easy to ride to Keswick for mucho beers too.

I liked Lanefoot - basic, but a fantastic location and has everything you need.

Fair enough, if you don't mind the rustic nature it's fine - we saw it at probably the worst time that year due to the never-ending rain, the site was only ~10% full at a time when it'd have been full otherwise.

Lowey, have you tried Denton House Hostel in Keswick. Have used the hostel before and have just booked for 20 of us to go again in April. The hostel has decent bunked accomodation, friendly staff, freedom to come and go any time of the day and self catering kitchen. Also has indoor bike storage and is handy for the pubs / nightlife in the town centre.
Cost is good compared to Keswick YHA @ £15 a night each at W/ends.
