2.5" WT and a 2.4" WT Maxxis tyres combo

Will they fit alright onto 24.5mm internal width rims with a 29.5mm outer width

As swapping my 2.35" Forekasters for Minion DHF 2.5" DH casing up front and a Minion DHR 2 Exo for rear see to beef things up

They’ll fit but you’ll have a rounder than ideal profile. Non WT Maxxis tend to be cheaper and suit narrower rims better.

Do they still make non WT options at the same widths?

IIRC they just do one design now. Not like them to narrow down their range of options though, I know.

Thanks JJ,

I thought as much though as I alreafy have the minion combo I'll have to commit to fitting n trying them out

Here's hoping not to go sideways roll over & split my elbow open 🤣😜

I've a 2.5" WT Shorty on a 25mm internal rim and it's great, definitely not too round at all. Many DH racers seem to have no issue with Assegais, Minions in WT sizes on EX471s and similar. Your experience may vary depending on the tyre and your rim however. I'm not sure how much of an impact going down 2.5mm at each sidewall will actually effect the profile (imagine Maxxis' diagrams are exaggerated, conspiracy to sell new things etc etc).

Non WT DHRs and DHFs are still available and are generally quite a bit cheaper. I run a standard DHR DD on the back and a WT Assegai on the front (I think Assegais are WT only).

I probably wouldn’t run a DH front and Exo rear - most people put the heavier casing on the rear, as this is the most vulnerable wheel.

This said, my tyres are DD rear, DH front, but that was only because DD Maxxgrip Assegais were hard to find at the time.

I had no choice of tyres as swapped for cash and got a set of chunkier tyres in the deal new that I needed

Only had choice of 2x DHF DH casing Minions but went with lighter EXO for rear as looks like more of a rear tread

maybe I'll get back to bloke and get the DH casing 2.5" DHF to fit to rear too

i just assumed DHF was for front & DHR was for rear

🙄🤬tossing Maxxis standards n shiz

It's anecdotal, only compared for one tread type but I have two wheel sets with identical rim profiles and a 2.5" DH Shorty (available for years before WT) is identical in profile and tread to a 2.5" WT EXO Shorty. May not be consistent across the range but I'd suspect where the tyre dimension existed before in non WT, DH casing, it's probably fine to go on a narrow rim.

If you have the rim and tyre seat it up with a tube and see.

I found the dhr2 2.4wt to be far too draggy (on the back anyway), the 2.3 version is a lot better.

I fitted a WT Shorty 2.5 on a 27.5 Flow EX and compared it to a Shorty 2.3 on a 26" wheel with an older Flow rim and there wasn't an obvious visual difference in the profile, didn't ride it as the WT was past its best.

I've ridden a 2.4 WT on a 26 in Crossmax SX 21mm internal diameter. Fine with a Minion DHR2 (set as front in that configuration, with a 2.4 Ardent non WT on rear).
