Doing a local race tomorrow and it's sponsored by the local Giant shop, so instead of being a 4hr race it's a 275 minute race. So just to advertise that 27.5 is the most amazing thing in the world the race gets longer. Cheers, worst of all the spot prize if a bloody giant bike 🙁

That would be a long race.
Races are lots of money to put on. Giant have lots of money. Without Giant's money, maybe this event couldn't have happened? Entries are rarely enough to cover all the overheads so sponsorship is critical to allow it to take place.
Could have been worse, you could have been racing for 10 hours 50 minutes!

Indeed, how dare a bike company sponsor a bike race so it can take place, and give away a really good prize. Shocking. If I knew who the local MP was for the race location I would write to him forthwith.

If you have ever organised any kind of event then you would know how valuable it is to have a sponsor and how bloody difficult it is to find one.

Events over here are actually well supported with each shop doing one series each, this one is the giant shops turn who normally put on a 4hr race series, the trek shop does the 6hrs, avanti/scott do the evening races and the other shop get the 2hr races.
Just a marketing gimmick really.

If some one had the audasity to give me a bike that i wasn't keen on i'd be so outraged that i'd be unable to bring myself to sell it and make a load af cash for **** all.
