Went round Ae today after work, first decent ride this year off road. Wow what a great day, managed the whole of Grannies Green love and the climb after the bridge. Fitness has improved and boy does it make mountain biking better, much more fun. Finally its what I thought it could be.

Days like that make it so worth while.

Hold that moment, it might be a long while before it comes again!

Over the winter i have been loosing 15 lbs and out every week on the road bike so am much fitter than i was back in November when i last rode Ae. I have now lost 23lbs since last easter and i can tell you i make a huge difference. Im much faster in certain sections which just make them more fun and.

On another note i see the Ae bike shop has closed.

I think it gets much more fun as you get stronger and more skilled. It's certainly worth putting the extra effort into it. I was riding a full suss for ages but last year I built a singlespeed hardtail and it's transformed my fitness and skill. I've always enjoyed mountain biking for so many reasons but now I'm stronger and more controlled I get much more excitement and satisfaction.

That's great. I can't ever see myself getting up that climb!

The guys at the bike shop are focussing on internet sales now I think. There is talk about finding a new cafe owner in the next few months - let's hope so, and maybe they will put a few more seats in where the bike shop was maybe?

Today I went over the bars in the first 10 minutes going through what I thought was a damp patch, turned out to be deep mud, went up to the fork and flipped me over the bars. Picked myself up kept going, got to the top of a nice descent but the bike was making a weird noise, investigated and found that my hope pro 2 had split across the hub body. ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

I'm still buzzing after it even now, it really makes all my hard work over the winter seem worth it.

I always knew that my enjoyment levels would rocket as my fitness got better but im really surprised that i was able to complete the whole of Ae already.

I still have over 2 stone to loose, cant wait to see how i get on when i am 70kgs.

Seems a crazy time to shut up shop, you would think they would hold out till the end of the summer.

I hate to see that, really wish more people in D&G would buy into the
7 stanes trails more and be able to support these shops. Its a great asset to have at a trail.
