Is WSD essential?

Not essential, just at 5'3 some small frames can be a bit long.

Would expect the Juliana to be lighter than the ST4 - my OH's Juliana is certainly a helluva lot lighter than my ST4 (not the diva, of course ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), admittedly my ST4 is bigger and the old design, but would still think the Juliana could be a pound lighter.

That said, my OH has replaced the bearings on hers once a year and I have barely touched the ST4s.

I used to have a Juliana and, yes, it does have a short top tube. Can't remember what weight mine was, around 25lbs I think. Really nice bike but I now find that at 5'5" mens bikes are a better fit.

Another one to bear in mind is the Ibis Mojo, again it has a short top tube and would suggest that a Small may fit.

go and try some bikes!!

Part of the fun of a new bike is trying some out. Look out for some demo fleets out there.

Not many wimmins bikes to demo unless times have changed!

Edit: Mountain Trax in Wokingham have a Juliana demo bike, think it's a small but would say on their website.

Orange & SC brought a big fleet out to Bike Treks last time I was there and I was sure Llandegla had some smaller ones.

Will pop over to mountain trax, didn't realise there's a change in sizing between old and current julianas

Nice, medium frame?

No, it's small. But reckon that with current geometry a medium would fit.
