Now this could set the cat amongst the pigeons (it may not of course) but if pressed would you sell your other bikes in order to buy a Jones? I realise there may be cries of Emperor's new clothes but interested to see owners' thoughts and opinions. Ta

No chance, he'd have to pay me to ride one, and added danger money for looking a bigger tit than I already do.

Right, that's probably enough to get this thread going ๐Ÿ˜›

Yes.

Yep, it will do everything I want from a bike.

But, I like variety, a quiver of bikes.

So don't sell all your bikes to buy a jones, just ADD a jones to your quiver.

Eh?

If the rest of your bikes was a bike, then yes, maybe. If the rest of your bikes is a couple of mountainbikes, a crosser and a road bike or two, then no.

Nope. No one bike would do all I want.

quiver

It's funny how you can lose respect for someone with just one word! ๐Ÿ˜•

From owning one a while, IF I could only have one bike and it couldn't be a custom, the Jones would be it, no second thought on that.
And even if it could be a custom it'd be a very hard if not futile task to try to top the Jones. TBH, I wouldn't bother and I'm quite confident in speccing myself a bike.

Would I sell my others to have one? Pretty much have done already. Only others I ride are my road bikes (Jones also gets used on road) and work projects, also work-related test bikes to keep some perspective on 'bike reality'..

I'd hate to have to limit myself to one bike.
But if I really had to have just one i'd get a custom fatbike with the same geometry as a Jones.

Nope. If I ever reached the stage where I was so desperate for attention that I considered buying a Jones, I'd simply stop riding and become a big hitter on here instead.

I agree, my Jones is definatly my best bike, but that could be down to how much it cost, I don't use it as much as I should as I have a "quiver), but I'd never sell it.

Hmm interesting reading (James I'm looking forward to playing on your bikes!) especially as found out today we're moving to London and will only have one bike for a couple years.

I think a Jones could be an important step in my bike education and the prospect of a frame coming which accomodates a knard at the back is exciting. It's a case of whether I sell my ss superfly (Not sure what I'd get?) and my cx bike to fund a steel jones imminently or hold onto them and try to save up for a jones as well (which seems bit crazy if only have one bike for the forseeable)

Nope. If I ever reached the stage where I was so desperate for attention that I considered buying a Jones, I'd simply stop riding and become a big hitter on here instead.

I doubt I could afford one even if I sold all my bikes. I'd like to try one though

The steel diamond and unicrown isn't that expensive considering you get frame & fork.

no, I mean who the hell would want to own some sort of ego chariot. Everyone knows they're cwap, it's just that beardiewierdies suffer for their niche and would be much happier on a giantrekspecialfive gnarcore trail mincer if they would just admit that they actually hate riding and only own such multi-tubed monstrosities to make up for their shallow and dull lives.

If I could have only one intelligent exchange of views on a cycling forum I'd like it to be this one.

A Jones is worth a test ride with an open mind. Nothing more. Nothing less.

If your riding is fairly narrow and restricted, and the Jones covers that narrow range of riding, then why not? But for me, no.

in all seriousness I've just sold most of my bikes as my space frame is just more fun.

I will be down to only 2 bikes. A jones and something niche as jeffs are a bit common ๐Ÿ˜€

EDIT: don't think that Steel SF is a poor relative of the Ti either it's bloody ace!

EDIT 2: the diamond frame is also a belter

EDIT 3: I ride everything apart from full on DH and the bike is more than capable and at some mental speeds as well.

Well if I was selling a CX bike and a Superfly, then yes, definitlely.... Also it's a rigid bike - not a magic bullet!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ that said, I've been riding mine for over 3 years and still bloody love it.

My friend went through the same process. He went on a training course in the states, when that was over he called jones drove up to his house, spent the day riding with him, had a meal with him and his wife. Bought one there and then. However, sold it sometime later and now rides a plastic bike. He did the same with IF, spot I think!

Now is a great time to buy a Jones, with the advent of the 3"Knard and a plethora of fat tyres available ...... Back in the day - the endomorph was your only choice and let's face it - it was suboptimal at best!

I think you'll find that back in the day the wier wolf was the only choice. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Heavy like a full sus, jarring like a rigid bike, expensive like both added together, they really do seem to do everything ๐Ÿ™‚

Thieves probably wouldn't know to nick it on the plus side.

you missed uglier than an orange 5 rider and more gnarcoreradsik than a full suit of body armour at llandegla. ๐Ÿ˜€

The werewolf was a great tyre though, unlike the Endo.

Still is in the dry.

Lethal in the wet though.

The Bud's where it's at now. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I've held back on buying a Bud - as I have a Larry, a Big Fat Larry, a Nate and a Husker Du - that's a lot of rubber ๐Ÿ˜€ . So how does the Bud compare to a Nate? Significantly more rolling resistance? Worth the extra grip?

There's more room than that picture shows.

Rode across a propper muddy field yesterday and no cloggage what so ever.

I recon it rolls about the same or even slightly better than a Nate.( maybe to do with the long thin shape of the nobs)
Bump absorption and grip are loads better.

I'm hoping we're past the megamud stage this winter - I'm thinking a 180tpi Escalator may be getting my money for Summer - OK , I'll admit to being superoptimistic here ๐Ÿ™

I'll think about a bud for next winter.

How many of you with Jones' live in rocky environments and love descents? Not many I'd guess.
And before some of you say 'ah, but if you've got the skills', I've rode with a few Jones owners and ended up having to wait for them...that was in Yorkshire too, god knows what it would have been like here in the Lakes!?! ๐Ÿ˜›

Ride in the peak district and rocky natural in wales..not noticed the jones being slow on rocky descents as I smash past chaps with 5" full boingers and storm trooper outfits.....I must be doing it wrong.

Why would you assume they aren't used for mountain biking?

And the lakes is your benchmark for gnarly? Maybe I'm missing something

If I had a collection of only rigid MTBs I might be tempted (assuming I was up for growing a beard and living in a log cabin to) but sell my full sus MTB and road/cx bikes as well for one? No chance, I've never ridden one but given I have a basic grasp of physics etc. I know it won't be better in all (or even most) situations than those. That's not a specific criticism of a Jones, just no bike can do it all as well as a variety of bikes with different characteristics.

The original question is almost offensive and is pretty much the same as 'are you stupid'?

I suppose the cult following is there for a reason... brainwashing ๐Ÿ˜€

If I was going for a one bike quiver, I'd want something that could do Epic XC, Gnartastic DH, Pumpy lumpy Dirt Jumps and snotty ASBO skateparks...

So I'd stick to a nice steel jump bike with a long seatpost and leave the Jones for pretentious conversations over niche ales.
