Hi guys

Looking for recommendations please. I currently have a madison zenith jacket, which is fantastic for me when it's cold and wet. But I'm finding it's too warm for inbetween conditions, so I'm after your suggestions. I ride enduro mostly, hard up and steep downs.

I normally wear a t-shirt/base layer with a thin Jersey over the top for temperatures about 8 degrees and above, and I'll be fine.

Or if it's wet just my base layer and zenith coat, but I'm finding this too warm. It's perfect when it's cold and wet because I can chuck a fleece on inbetween the two.

So to cut it short, I'm after something that will keep light rain and mud spray At bay, but not be as warm as a proper waterproof jacket. Ideally reasonably priced, or hard wearing if possible, because I do tend to crash and ruin things haha.

Cheers guys

Royal Racing Matrix jacket is good. It’s waterproof but thin and I don’t find I sweat much in it.

Recently got a dhb flashlight jacket for commuting in (reflective) and that is much sweatier - but I’m accepting that on the basis it makes me less likely to get run over!

Montane Alpine Stretch (now ‘Dyno Stetch’) for me. This is a year round jacket for me - snow, sleet and rain or fast windy descents when you have a big sweat on from the climb and heading for its fourth winter and more crashes, bramble bushes etc than I want to remember. In the summer you open the chest zips and roll the sleeves up to the elbow.

Because climbers like long arms and backs too it works excellently for riding. Jackets with bike clothing names on just can’t keep up with actual outdoor clothing on price or value. Other opinions are available...

I would agree with this, especially cut and features on many.
Running gear can be even better value again, but perhaps not the long arms and body that riders prefer at times.

I find avoiding my waterproof when cycling is best. I have thin Pertex like windproof, that coverts into a gilet. I wear this the majority of the time. Actual jacket is only a few rides per year.

Have a look at a jacket made with Polartec Alpha. I've recently (birthday) received a PedalEd Tokaido jacket and in a not especially tough test of a few days of commuting in 4-5C found it is warm enough when cycling with a lightweight Uniqlo HeatTech Tshirt underneath and not very sweaty but also ok when stopped and sorting some things out once at destination.

Or if you don’t want to pay Cycling prices for polartec alpha look at the mountain Equipment Switch jacket and jerkin. I’ve been using the jerkin for the last couple of months and very impressed at warmth v bulk. Not waterproof but not been an issue yet. Packs up small enough for a jersey pocket.
