I admire it actually. There's a lot of thought gone into it when you look at it.

It was made from three bikes. An mtb, the front of a tandem that had S&S couplings and something else.It had a thudbuster seat post too. It all packed up into a small bag. Tons of smart engineering tweaks.

Richey Breakaway plus S&S couplers by the looks of things. Looks great to me.

He had also converted the rear Phil Wood hub from a screw on drum to a homemade disc adapter.

The guy worked part time for a charity that helped kids in an inner city to recycle bikes. He saved a lot of the better quality parts for this project.

He had neither sandals nor beard, though he had very white teeth and rode in canvas gutties.

It's all very well, but why would you need to carry so much crap with you that you need a bike that can carry that much?
