She is built. Got the frame and forks from Agency_Scum of these parts and, after some faffing, got it together and ridden for the first time today:

It takes a confident man to ride a lilac bike!

1987 Cannondale tourer, been in a garage most of it's life. 72cm centre to top. Yes, they are 700c wheels! Feels quick.

It is a 27" frame - that was stock back then.

Druidh - I'll convert the bottle cage to a saddle and you can ride it from there. Jamie - I'm 6'7" with a 40" standover, so not quite 7'.

I just had a thought - could you fit a spare wheel inside the front triangle? Would be awesome for when you get punctures. Just swap wheels (like the TdF, but without the car...)

That's one weird looking bike - still, once you're on it you don't have to look at it!

And the stem's upside down.

It is bigger than his bike - the steerer on his is long for his old man's back but his seat tube is only a 62.

I don't remember anyone hand delivering a gilt-edged invite with the details for such an event.

I doubt if there is enough carbon fibre in the world to make such a beast.

How tall are you TooTall, of you don't mind me asking.

I'm the same dimensions as you Tootall but by god that's ugly, i don't think i could bring myself to ride it.

I'll stick with my 63cm trek thanks but i was looking at the 66cm framed Koga bikes yesterday.

Having siad that, the headtube on my XXL Fargo is mahoooosive but surely even you don't need a seat tube as long as 72???

You're right - I don't need 72cm - I could probably get away with 70, or even 68. Centre to Centre it isn't as big. However, every bike fit software and manufacturer I've spoken to has me on a bike bigger than stock - Ribble reckons about a 64cm compact and 69cm traditional. My 40" standover and 38" shirt-sleeved arms have to go somewhere.
That seat post is set for my riding height as are the bars - not exactly slammed into the frame are they?

Do you really feel cramped on a 63cm frame? I have the same inseam as you and my arms may be a bit longer than yours (7ft fingertip to fingertip - long even for my height) and i feel pretty good on my 63cm Trek. I even put a shorter stem on it recently.

I would go 66cm for a Koga if anybody had one in the country for me to try but the dealer i went to last year didn't even have a single Koga bike to look over, let alone a 66cm.

I guess custom would always be the right answer for people our size?

I want to be riding near you when a driver tries to claim he didnt see you, that said the car would properly drive through the front triangle and miss you..
