And if it is, what's the best way of fixing it?

If it still holds air I'd just leave it.

IMO you could probably bend it back into shape with a large adjustable, but i'd be looking at a new rim personally. Especially if you are running tubeless.

A rag over therein then ease it back with an adjustable spanner.
Doesn't look fatal to me.

Hard to tell from the photo, is it a dint in the rim or has the rim gone out of round?

I'd make up a wooden dolly to match a good part of the rim and knock the dent back into place.

I've just had the same issue, but mine was dented inward. Try to do as little as you can to get it straight as you can. Don't use too much force. Putting a towel over the jaws of a large vice and tightening against the rim worked quite well. You could try wedging an appropriate sized piece of wood inside the rim and hammering gently against a towel/cloth from the outside.

Tyre out, bend back carefully with adjustable spanner.

Tape the rim anew and you'll be fine.

Done worse with mine, no issues, hold tubelesse OK.

Tap it back with a leather hammer

2 mins with an adjustable and you’ll be sorted. Just remember to check if your rim needs a metric or imperial

Yup, I'd say this is a gentle hammering job, or possibly squish in a vice- adjustable for bending out, hammer or vice for bending back in

Nothing to lose really.
