I was thinking of driving over to do this in between biggies such as Kirroughtree.
Is it worth the trip - probably around an hour's drive max from our house?
yes - did it twice on saturday, some good sections.
will only take you 45mins or so to get round.
45 mins?? The map says 16km. It takes me around 2 hours to do Mabie and that is something like 18km on the red?
I think I'll still do it as I need a shorter ride on Thursday before the big on with Forge on Saturday.
I was there on Saturday. The trails themselves are quite good but there is very little of the waymarked stuff. Looked like you could get round all of it in about an hour.
We were doing the ride over from Kielder so did the red loop before heading back.
If you were going to go I'd suggest looking into riding an extended route up into the hills towards the border. Unfortunately most of what we saw was fireroad, it was more XC slog than anything else. Still a nice ride, depends on what you like though. But looking at the surrounding area (not maps) there is potential there, not sure about the existence of any singletrack...
