Don't race but am about to buy a big ticket item from Chain Reaction and was wondering whether it was worth joining BC to get a discount.

How does the system work? Do you need to have a specific level of membership to qualify?

Are the number and amount of discounts limited in any way?

Answers gratefully received.

1 discount per month from crc

Cheapest bc membership is bronze race i think and qualifies for the discount.

Also 10% in halfords & Evans

30% from sis

Well worth the fee imho

Don't forget the legal cover if you get pranged on the road and, obviously, BC race license is mandatory for a lot of racing.

Oh, and if you're a BC qualified coach, actively coaching within a BC-aligned cycling club, you'll get your membership for free. Woohoo!

Also 10% in halfords & Evans

The Evans one is a one off use from what I can figure out.

I've used the Evans 10% and did see some message about being one time only but I'm not sure whether that just means I have to go to the BC site and generate a new code as and when

But to answer the OP it doesn't take long to get your money back if you can make use of the discounts.  I only have the most basic 'Fan' membership and all the discounts work for me.

I'd probably go for a higher level membership if I wasn't also a CyclingUK member for insurance etc

I bought a bike from CRC and joined at the time for the discount; it's worth doing (if just to not have to post a thread begging for a 10% discount).

Wiggle are quite often 10% cheaper compared to CRC, BC discount brings them into line.

The evans discount works over the counter just by presenting your card, this works well with click & collect.

They've recently cracked down on the halfords discount & it now only applies to bike related bits. So tool chests, dash cams, in-car DVD players and roof boxes are out of the picture. Until the store training is forgotten again.

I heard this about Halfords but I just got car polish & a BBQ and they gave me the 10% discount no fuss, worth just presenting the card.

Definitely. I've had a Boardman CX and an elite Direto from Halfords for the 10% off already heavily discounted prices. Also using their legal service after a nasty accident involving an uninsured motorist. I'd say it's a must have personally.

I recently joined - mainly for the cover of something happens whilst you are commuting. I got 10% off the BC cycling membership as I did the C2W scheme.

Do you still get the CRC and other discounts with "Fan" membership?
