Brother in law is doing the Isle of Man end to end mtb challenge. Would love to hear from previous participants on what it's like. Some you tube footage of 2013. Lots of very muddy riders all falling off.
A dry and hot summer in 2013 went to shit five days before last years event and made it very wet and muddy.
I've done it 9 times and live 5 minutes from the finish. It's about 40 miles in total over varied terrain. Nothing overly technical these days as tight stuff wouldn't accommodate the 1750 entries as the organisers found to their cost in 2012.
It still generates good camaraderie though and the whole of one side of the island virtually stops for a day. Under 4 hours will generally get you in the top 100 or thereabouts.
Certainly a must do event
2013 was my 3rd End2End and I'm looking forward to riding it again this year.
The approx 40 mile route takes you through some spectacular Manx scenery over a variety of terrain.
It's a big event for the island and the locals come out in force to cheer on the riders.
Great atmosphere, good fun, highly recommended ๐
I did it about 15 years ago. A great ride on a lovely sunny day is what I remember.
I'm from the Island, so I'm biased, but I think it's a great event. Just do your best to avoid getting stuck in the masses of non mtb ers in the lower half of the field.
Ive entered for my 3rd time, aiming for under 3 hrs 45 this year.
Doing my first this year. There's about another 10 of us from work doing it, too.
Have friend from the island that has talked me into it for the last two years, great event, probably favourite of the year with Big Dog, hard event with a lot of climbing, but the locals all turn out and support and give it a great atmosphere and there is some great riding in the island if you stay on for a few days
I am doing it for the first time this year with a few mates, that's if the foot heals OK and I get to start training.
Done it twice, got 51st in 2011.
If you are going for a time then start as near the front as you can and make as many places up on the road as psossible.
I'm doing it this year for the first time. I was born and raised on the island, moved to Tameside 18 months ago but never done it. funny that.
