Tell me if I've got it wrong. I'm assuming after Wednesday it's fine for me to drive 20 odd miles with my bike to go riding. I will be going on my own and riding on my own.

Yup.

It's basically OK to do that now anyway (well, it strictly isn't but the Police shouldn't bother you for doing it) as long as your ride takes longer than the driving.

Based on what what's been said tonight, I'm allowed to travel and take unlimited exercise

Torridon next weekend then*

*Not really.  I'm not that stupid.

As long as that 20 miles doesn’t take you into Scotland or Wales of course.

Now you guys get your revenge for all those digs about access rules from those of us north of the border. So think of us and enjoy your ride 🙂

I'm sure the lovely folks in the Lake District (just one example ) will welcome the hordes with open arms!

They will all be wild camping and staying in laybys.

Anyone else think 10 minutes was a bit short and lacking in detail?

Hence he started the whole thing by explaining that the details will be announced to Parliament tomorrow.

Arse about face as usual

Good luck with heading to The Lakes, The Peak, North York Moors. There's no pubs or cafes open and you'll be made to feel like you've arrived in Royston Vasey.

Could do with some more precise advice as to how far you are permitted to drive. My usual haunts vary between 18 and 25 miles from home.Is this too far?Acceptable?

The problem down here in Devon is that the police have insisted on re interpreting the clear CPS guidance and attempted to deny the ability to drive short distances for daily exercise.

I've already been driving up to 60 mile round trips in the car to do bike rides under current lockdown rules, passed at least 3 Police cars with my bike on a tow bar mounted rack, all who've said nothing. You can do it already.

I don't really get the "no car not far no gnar" thing there's nothing in the official guidelines that imply any of that.

What I'm a bit unclear about is under the new rules will I officially be allowed to ride with a friend ?

Well, Hadfield really is Royston Vasey, to be fair.

I'm taking the view that until these areas feel able to open and welcome me, I'm better off staying away. A wise man once said "just because you can doesn't mean that you should"

My understanding is it's still only with members of the same household. Maybe tomorrow will clarify. After all the current documentation needs amending.

grannyjone, if you're trolling, your posts are piss poor efforts; otherwise you've clearly never heard of Rule 1.

BBC news twice stated you can meet a friend (singular) as long as you maintain social distancing. But I don’t recall Boris saying that, not sure if BBC have notes from the government to help clarify his statement.

BBC says you can now meet a friend and 'sit in a park' as long as you stick to the 2m rule....

Not sure what the difference between that and go for a run/bike ride is.

Doesn’t appear to have stopped people in our area the last week, unless a lot of co habiting men have suddenly taken up cycling.

The NHS app needs to be working before cyclist start disappearing in to the sunset. + lots of idiots not ridden their bikes for weeks then heading out and injuring themselves.

What’s the crack with Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 can I now cycle there from my house or are they still saying no to exercise?

BBC must have seen specific detail, so I believe from weds we are permitted to conduct outdoor exercise with a single friend, if we maintain 2m distance.

A smart move IMO, undoubtedly led by public health experts.

watersports will be allowed for people in the same household.

Dirty buggers

so I believe from weds we are permitted to conduct outdoor exercise with a single friend, if we maintain 2m distance.

No it says you can still only exercise with someone in your household.

Well most of my mates still say they won't come out Biking with me because they think it's still not allowed.
If you can find anything that officially states you can exercise with a single friend could I have the link ? If I showed it to them it might convince them.

I don't really understand the desire to drive somewhere to ride. I'm saying that as someone who has zero fun riding from my door. You can ride for as much exercise as you want from your door. So the driving has to be to ride something more 'interesting' - which would put you in the 'total douche bag' category in the current climate as far as i am concerned.

People in England can exercise more than once a day from Wednesday 13 May, including playing sport, provided they do so only with people from their households

That’s what BBC is saying

I don’t really understand the desire to drive somewhere to ride

To stop me from going insane with boredom ?

I have got 3 partly fun routes straight from my house but it really can get boring riding them solo every day, felty particularly rubbish today as the weathers taken a turn for the worse. A bit like a crap version of what I did last week!
Need to drive somewhere for the variety.

Since lockdown I have used my car for a minority of rides. I have ridden Gnar (Drop offs, jumps, steeps and techy descents). I have ridden as far as 58K in a single ride.

When the lockdown started all that was made clear was: One form of exerise a day, and it has to be done alone. Essential travel only. (But exercise is essential and later read news stating that it is okay to drive to do exercise as long as the drive is not too far)

All this talk of not driving, not hitting Gnar and keeping it under 1 hour all came later off other bikers trying to go the extra mile. I never saw anything officially stating you shouldn't be doing any of that.

@grannyjone I'd stop talking now if I were you. 3 fun routes straight from your door and yet you still go out for 60 mile drives to ride somewhere else?

To be honest I felt like I was sticking to the rules better than most, during my numerous recent Solo rides I've encountered unbelievable amounts of walkers in groups & social gatherings greater than 2. A few sightings of people really taking the piss: massive gatherings on the moors with a BBQ and yesterday a huge gang of bikers riding Electric Motocross style Bikes on the trails!

Bigger fines for people who break the rules, but you can drive from your house unlimited times to take excersise

Some of us don’t even have 1 fun route to ride from our doors, but are still managing to not drive 60 miles to have an essential bike ride

That 60 mile round trip was a one-off, that's the furthest I've driven. Even that is only 30 miles each way.

Most of my rides have been from home but there has become a point where driving has been very desirable for some variety and some trails I've been really missing that I knew would be riding ace in recent weather. Most drives have only been 20-25 miles each way.
Most places less than that would usually be reachable without a car anyway!

All the places I've driven to have been more isolated than any of my local routes so would actually be safer in terms of risk of catching the disease.

grannyjone - Rule 1 is short-hand for....don't be a dick.
Nothing personal.
Ask yourself - would the majority of people think your behaviour is 'reasonable'?
You know the answer - based on your posts and comments from others.
Ignore what others have done; the best you can do is to behave 'reasonably'.

Regardless of whether anyone thinks driving a car to rides is being a dick or not, it's not going to stop me doing it every so often. The reason I came to this thread was not to debate that anyway, but to find out if we have anything official on whether riding with mates is now allowed?

I'd suggest waiting for the updates to be published. But I expect if it doesn't suit you you'll ignore it and do what you want anyway so why even bother asking.

The same advice still stands:

"People in England can exercise more than once a day from Wednesday 13 May, including playing sport, provided they do so only with people from their households"

I don't see that you could interpret that as it's OK to go for a ride with a mate.

I don’t know what the English Mountain Rescue teams are saying but the message in Scotland is clear, nobody plans to have an accident, most are just bad luck, but if you do have an accident in an isolated area, finding you and extracting you is a team effort potentially involving upwards of 30 people working is close contact with one another in circumstances where masks and visors don’t really work so if anyone of them (or you) unknowingly is infectious you just made the potential to infect 30 others.

No, we don’t. If all goes well, we might have in a month or two. All depends on the behaviour of the public, and resulting spread of the virus, in the meantime.
