[Closed] Integrating eBikes with training on TrainingPeaks...any ideas?

[#11209967]

I’m doing a lot of training at the moment with ebike rides in between for fun as recovery rides. TP is reporting a 100TSS ride for a 3 hour ebike ride with my kids, during which my ave HR is maybe 75 to a max HR of 185. TP also reports 100 TSS for a 60 mins intervals session. There is no way the rides compare; the ebike ride is easier than walking.

I queried with TrainingPeaks customer service and they suggested doing a HR threshold ride on the ebike. I don’t see how this can help.

Does anyone have ideas how to integrate ebike rides into TrainingPeaks? Currently it’s screwing up my data.

The effort is measured by your heart rate so if you are hitting that high on the easy ride with the ebike then you are still putting a decent effort in.

That’s the thing I am putting no effort. Heart rate of 75 is lower than when I’m walking. I get home and I feel not tired in the slightest therefore there is no comparison to an 1-hour VO2max intervals ride, when I might feel rinsed.

Why bother logging it in TP then?

Best change that then as it sounds wrong if it does go that hight. If it does though, that will count towards your TSS score.

I log them because some of the ebike rides are more intense. I just wondered if someone had worked out a way. No worries if not.

Think this is an issue with TSS fundamentally, regardless of how one powers their bicycle - it's a crude measure if you're applying it to very different types of riding. As one might expect, since most of these metrics are boiled down to one number to make them user-friendly and digestible.

So you could do a 300 TSS weak with some roadie noodling, not touch the red zone, and never really feel tired. But if you tried to build that with intervals that might be four hour sessions that would have your legs hammered.

TrainerRoad do TSS estimates from your own RPE of the ride - I think it feels more reasonable than some of the hrTSS estimates that I used to get from TP. You might be able to find their algorithm for that if you have a search about.
